Easiest way I found was to dump your collection onto an iPod and use an FM interface rather than the cable to cut down the background whine - has anyone found a better way to do this?

In short....NO there is no way to mod the existing ICC to play MP3's.

As suggested an IPod/XBox or DVD will work well.

ive got over 10,000 songs on call in my car. gotta love that xbox

Use the Belkin Tunecast for the FM transmitter but don't plug it into the cigarette lighter power. Chews through the batteries but at least you don't get the whine.

You can buy an interface through VDO that allows you to use the USB connect cable for the Ipod. This means that you are transmitting data not stereo sound which in turn gives no signal loss or degrading. Costs a few dollars though.
