Adaptor For Dvd On Prem Sound Screen

Thought you guys might be interested in this. I ordered it last wednesday night and it arived Friday morning.

Does your usual composite to RGB conversion but it will also do a PAL to NTSC conversion which I needed since the new headunit I got will output PAL or NTSC depending on the dvd. Some you can select the output, which I couldn't do with mine.

The unit also has RGB passthrough which is selected via a switch. That means you can retain satnav. There is also a 2nd video input that can be automatically switched as soon as 12v is applied to the correct wire. Useful for a reversing cam, or that STB/XBOX you might have installed with an RGB cable. If used with the later, then a switch would have to be made up to be able to switch 12v to that wire.

I highly recommend this adaptor, and for $304.70 delivered, it's not badly priced at all. You will need to terminate the RGB cable yourself, which is quite easy if you get the Toyota factory radio plug as mentioned in other threads. It took me about half an hour to solder up the plug onto the cable, and to wire everything up.

Heres the end result with mine:::

Vey nice Bob, install looks good and the screen looks awesome.

I may do something like this eventually.... hows the screen quality cope with playing a dvd?

Just curious, when you turn the bottom deck off does the screen still display the factory stuff, like air con, cds etc? Is the factory stacker still usable?

Cheers

The only time it displays something related to aircon etc, is when you make a change, such as turning the aircon on/off, demister, etc. It comes up over the top of what your watching for a few seconds, then dissapears again. There is a wire that when grounded, it turns off the factory display and enables the dvd display.

Removing that wire from ground returns it to the factory display as you see in every other BA with prem sound. I have a switch to switch from one to the other.

The screen is fine with playing DVD's.

My rear speakers are still connected tot he factory deck, so the stacker will work for now, but only play through the back speakers. I will be connecting the rears to my amp soon though, rendering the factory one useless.

very nice!

How did you install the deck? would love to see some close up pictures of how it is mopunted!

Am in the process of doing the same. Have made the cable but image quality is very poor. Am mounting the converter in the boot so have a 4m cable run. I am using proper vga cable but the image is very flarey and hardly watchable. Any ideas?

that's the best I can do. It's 18mm MDF with a square cutout in the middle of it for the cradle that comes with your headunit. that way you don't have to make extra brackets to hold the deck in.

To hold the top part in, I got some thick wire *the inner copper from your house wiring will do, or fence wire), made a loop in one end so I could screw it to the back top corners of the MDF and then the bits of wire come out either side. This almost lines up with the screws for the tissue box holder. Just put the screws in and bend the wire around it so its a nice fit.

For the bottom, I put some screws through the plastic in the consol, into the side of the mdf. Make sure where you put them through, that its the spot covered by the tissue box holder for when you want to return it to factory.

bob, nice setup. I'm looking at using the screen for a computer install (obviously it won't have touchscreen operation) so I'm very interested in how you connected the VGA cable to the monitor and installed the earth switch for "standard" display.

I searched the forums for "Toyota Radio Plug" and the result was 11 pages of threads.

Are you able to provide more pics and a wiring diagram of the install as well as details on the toyota radio plug.

Many thanks

XR8 maybe, everything you need to know is in CutSnakes Digital TV for Ford ICC, Proof of Concept thread.

Download the wiring diagram from CutSnales post #31 (page2) and on post #79 (page 3) aaronmihe says;

....

I can confirm somethings:

Aerpro connectors are an exact match, but as they retail for between $19 and $30 each the wrecker is a cheaper option. The plug to fit into the ICC is Aerpro "711761" and suits the 1987 up Toyotas, you want the factory plug replacement not the more common socket version that plugs into the factory loom.

AUX audio input volume levels remain an "issue". Hardcore option is to tap some power form the moblie phone connector and then put in a preamp...

AUX audio loon (where the 2.8mm spades plug in under the dash) happens to use the females version of the 'other' plug that comes in the Aerpro "711761" pack. This means you can get a socket to piggy back SatNav, a socket to connect to the AUX audio and a plug to plug into the ICC by buying these two Aerpro packs. Not cheap but damn easy.

Hope that helps :)

Fantastic.

Thanks Raptor, just what I was looking for.

Spot on.

I tried getting a PC running on the factory screen with the VGA out, RGB in, but I couldn't get the refresh rates right, no matter what I did. There is a video card called ArcadeVGA which will let you do it no worries.

I'm going to try the TV out on my PC now that I have the adaptor, and I'll see how that looks.

does the alpine u it have an am/fm tuner in it?

Have you hooked it up?

If you have I would love to know how. I plan on totally disconnecting speakers from the factory unit but still want to listen to the radio.
