First post so please take it easy on me :fool:

I've been reading these forums on and off for the past couple of years, and I've recently got the green light to get a T.

We're looking at a few slightly used cars and am wondering what are some of the pitfalls are? Only real requirement is that's it's manual and can be a Mk1 or Mk2.

I've read a few vague references to clutch problems, brake shuddering, clunks etc - so I was wondering what should I look out for? Is there a problem with a series up until a particular date?

I would love to hear about other's experiences with their Ts and some of the pitfalls to avoid :fool:

If it's a manual you want then it will be a mkII you want. Especially if your going to mod as the t56 will handle alot more than the t5.

While your at it might as well get one with prem sound and prem brakes. There the main 2 options you should really look for.

Goodluck

If buying a series 1 brake shudder was 'fixed' with some factory changes from Oct 03 onwards, dont buy a car built prior to then. Drive as many manuals as you can to find one with a nice tight driveline. If you buy one that clunks Ford will not fix it under warranty and you will grow to dislike the car

Good luck :spoton:

Thanks for the tip! I can't seem to find too many good second hand cars in WA, but I'm hoping to get this one or similar :spoton:

Not much to choose from there Spud.

Maybe worth taking a few days off and flying to Vic to find a car and taking a road trip home. You will save $$ and have a much better choice, and have fun doing so :spoton:

this is actually a very good idea..

the prices are heaps cheaper over there!!

I thought about it but time was the problem..

if you have the time then 1 way plane tickets = next to nothing.

selling your car privately will be more profitable.

im sure others from the forum could stop in at their local dealer and check out a car for you!!

I've seriously considered flying over for the day, just having to organise finance and stuff befoe I go and getting it finalised while I'm there would be a pain. Mind you, things change so fast. I'm looking at buying late January (new model just released so more trade-ins + car benig 'older' + end of month + runout models)

do not get a mk 1 manual... has to be the mk11 if you want a manual mate.

Also I know brake shudder was meant to be fixed oct 03... my last T was dec 03 and had massive shudder.

When driving test for

1. brake shudder

2. driveline clunk

3. power steering shudder

4. diff whine

most other things you will get fixed under warranty but these things ford willpass the puck back to you :spoton:

as you change gear an let the clutch back out, the driveline lashes, causing a clunk.. like when you are driving at idle in 1st (~10kph) and the car bumps back and forward..

except the xr6t does that in all gears (not as bad of course)

im not sure what exactly it is but others could shed some light..

if you look in the mall woods section under modifications a detail description is there

as soon as you drive a few you'll know exactly what we mean :spoton:
