It wasnt that popular at the time - but gees going to pubs is much nicer now, no smelly clothes, sore throats. Most of my friends who are smokers even seem to prefer it.Most pubs now have an outside area that smokers can use - and it is actually working out fine. And I am a smoker! When I want a smoke I go outside, I still remember the days of having to wade through the smoke to find the steak on your plate in restaurants! Thank god they banned that atleast. Posted 01/09/05 02:44 AM Share Posted 01/09/05 02:44 AM I can't believe this thread... As recent ex smoker (4 months now) I must say, I really don't mind if people smoke near me. I'd prefer if they didn't smoke in my house or car, I never did so why should they? Worked with a stupid bint who used a deoderant spay to conceal the smell, it was revolting, worse than the smoke. As for the health care cost, its a fallicous argument;what costs more, a 50 year old smoker who spends six months in intensive care until he/she dies or a non smoker who spends 30 years on the old age pension? No doubt smokeing kills and lots of people find it unpleasant but the fanatical anti-smoking zeal I've just skimmed over in this thread is more offensive to me than a mildly pongy poor addicted dude who just had a puff.....Oh yeah YCL, if you had just a bit more commitment when you were 13 and smoked 3 or 4 more, you'd have made the grade P.S (ever noticed just how many people involved in the medical industry smoke...?) And now that you mention it I remember seeing a report that outlined the cost savings created by smokers croaking earlier in life, and when all things considered, with the extra tax paid in tobacco excise counteracting medical expences, they save the govt money in pension spending..... as we know you can prove anything with statistics though. Also your comments about your high tollerance of puffers being an ex smoker supprise me. On Dr's orders my outlaws became reformed smokers and overnight became anti smoking Nazi's. They had a zero tolerance attitude towards smokers...of course he is dead now.... was pretty old though almost 62. Must be different part of the medical industry you reffer to, as very few medical imaging types and NO cardiology staff I know smoke...General nursing staff though, that's a different story.I always get a giggle at the old withered folk in their wheelchairs, with oxygen and a drip in their Pj's being wheeld out in the sunshine near the front entrance to 'enjoy' puffing away their last few days...I guess once you get to that point, there is little reason in changing. I guess I see first hand everyday what smoking does to people and it simply strengthens my resolve, and dislike...not of smokers but of smoking... I can assure you, I didn't quit just "for the fun of it" lots of people in the NT smoke, It just doesn't bother me, I still enjoy the smell but it was a looong hard road to get to where I am now, don't want a smoke anymore, but I always enjoyed it! Posted 01/09/05 04:04 AM Author Share Posted 01/09/05 04:04 AM Well then... If this is what its come to then I appologise. If my comments have stirred you up this much, that you feel you need to come at me with personal attacks and insolence, then I appologise that you thought I was directing my comments at you. Most probably, I wasn't. You could be the cleanest smoker alive. So it wouldn't apply to you, it would only apply to the selfish cops who truely have utter disrespect to everyone in there local area. This, almost positively, is not you. I appologise for the thread title and for poll option number 4. They were too generalised and pointed the finger at more people than I intended. So, fair go guys. No hard feelings, but I'm just another bloke working his way through life, trying to make the most of it and wanting to have a bit of a chat on the side. I've got an opinion, just as you do.I've got things that people do that I hate, so do you, but I don't come on a forum bagging you out for them. One of my hatreds is the smell and some of the actions of some(not all) smokers. Now, if I've never met you then why do you take offense to this? In real life, you could be the nicest bloke I'll ever meet, and if you are courteous with how you smoke, I truely wouldn't mind and it wouldn't detract from my view of you as a person. So, again, I appologise, I've had a nice little sleep on it, and I've come to my senses. This poll was just asking for it.I hope you can accept this and allow me to move on from here so I can get back to what I do best, technical dribble and proving geeseman wrong. Please don't attack my intelligence over this either. that's truely below the belt, this is my subjective opinion on a non intellectual topic. It has nothing to do with my education or level of maturity, so don't go there, that's childish... And even if you consider what I posted to be childish, does that mean you automatically have to be childish also? I didn't think so.Take it easy, enjoy your day. Yet for some reason others just hate people, rather than what they do.[edit] Yep, that means I actually don't hate Steve (Geeseman) as a person, I just don't like his ignorance for example... But never have I hated him. Just clearing that up (not sure why, but felt that I needed to). All's cool....Go out, sit in the sun...have a nice ciggie I just get a little disapointed that people can back you up in one thread, get as much information from you in another, then turn up and nail you to the wall like this.I don't mind, I've got more mates around me who encourage me, and the things I do, than not. So this doesn't really affect me. But it shouldn't have gotten to this. I shouldn't have put the "and do you realise you smell like arse" in the thread title.I feel that is the single line that set the anger meter from 'pissed off' to 'genocide' mode.My bad, but no harm done to me.I just hope that most people on the forum saw through the crap and realised that I was just damn pissed off at how much this guy stunk, and that I was a clear anti smoker. Just a tad disapointed that it got so personal over so little. Meh, anyways, you stir the pot, then prepare for the aftermath!
