Hi,

Hi, it seems as though the modification bug has bitten me. I'm thinking of getting an edit done as I'd like just a little bit more grunt as I've grown used to what the car currently produces. (My T is currently stock).

I'm limited in the sense that it's a company vehicle, and this is why the edit seems as though it would best suit my needs.

Easy to install, easy to remove. Change cars regularly etc....

Question is...

Is it necessary to inform your insurance company about the edit as it is a "stealth" unit and it would be the only mod I'd do?

As my insurance is also organised through my work, it might make it hard for me to broach the topic with my employer on the basis that I want to mod the car etc.

Just after the general consensus....

I want to be up front about the mod with the insurance company, but if it is a "stealth unit" I might just be concerned for nothing....

thanks.

I haven't told my insurance company about the edit! Not sure I will either :tease:

Only because they may look at it as 'SPEED INCREASE' 'ACCIDENT PRONE' 'HOON' well you get the picture. But yet I have told them all the other modifications I have done and no probs :stirthepot:

I'd tell them, if you don't and you have an accident and they go over the car with a fine tooth comb (before you have had a chance to un-edit it) you may be in serious :spoton: as they may refuse to pay zed claim (and your work is still going to want their money...)

A few months back when I was going through my insurance hassels one of the times the person only put my car down as an NA, I found out later that if I had an accident during that time I'd have been screwed...

when I called AAMI to tell them about the edit they asked me what exactly I wanted them to do? I explained that its a "tuned" ecu and that I just wanted it noted on the policy. They said that they can add a comment on the policy about the car being tuned but if there is no phisical diference to the car then its not a mod.

The girl I was talking to had no idea how to deal with my request but at the end of the conversation she said "well its noted on my system as you telling me that the car has been re-tuned, and that will cover you if you need to make a claim in the future" :spit:

bottom line, I would still make them add the "tune" onto the policy just to be safe :msm:

I work in the insurance industry and my advice to you is disclose, disclose, diclose ! Chances are that your insurer may not cover you if you tell them about the mods but at least you can then look elsewhere. This is a much better scenario than being told at claim time "Sorry buddy, you didn't tell us about the mods and had you told us we would not have covered you. Sorry no claim".

Mine has gone down on my policy as 'Computer Chip". There was no requirement to explain what it was or how it worked, there was no increase to my premium.

Funny thing is, when I added mu Hrad Cover to the policy I got charged an extra $44/year :msm: - Must make my car more dangerous and likely for claim!
