I agree that the new exhaust on my March build T is way too droney. I was very disappointed when I first heard how different it was to earlier models when driving away from the dealer.

The 02 XR6T I test drove had a high tech exhaust note with just the right amount of grunt. The new exhaust note is too deep and overwhelming to the point where passengers in the rear have commented that it’s hard to have a conversation at normal speaking levels.

I agree that the car sounds great when idling or revving, but at normal highway cruising speed it sounds pretty crap in my opinion.

What would be the cheapest and easiest solution for quieting it down a little?

Perhaps I'm going a little overboard but I actually feel quite deceived by this issue.

In my opinion when you order a car at a specific time, you are ordering the car that is on the market at the point of time. I.e you’re ordering the exact performance, specifications and options of the car you have just looked at. If changes are going to be made after that point, no matter how minor, customers should be informed so that they are fully aware that the car they are getting will infact differ to the one they ordered.

A different exhaust note probably means nothing to most people, but for me it’s a big issue. Why? My fiancé found the exhaust volume of the original car just tolerable. I actually had to talk her into the fact that it sounded great and wouldn’t bother her with general driving. As far as the new exhaust is concerned we both hate it.

If they have changed it I don't know why.

The exhaust has a good note to it when the revs are up(I always put all the windows down in the harbour tunnel and use the SSS) but driving with the windows up you can hardly hear it.

Surely that is what most people want so I don't know why they would want to make it so loud you hear it in the cabin.

Makes you wonder if they have made any less noticeable changes to the car in the last 6 months that is not common knowledge.

Complain to your dealer and request that the earlier build rear muffler be put on your car as a warranty item. I am not sure but I suspect that the only difference is that the earlier cars had a baffled rear muffler and the latter ones are straight through type.

Does anyone know for sure what the changes Ford made to the post March build car's exhausts?

Tas, I agree with Turbo6man, give Craig an email and ask him what the go is, if it is only the rear muffler that has changed I'd be asking to change it to the earlier style. I'm sure Craig and Westpoint will look after you.

XRTas, l too would be very disappointed. The BA is a modern, refined car which of course is why the turbo is so popular, the best of both worlds at an affordable price. But to have a droney exhaust would give me the sh*t$, that was the sort of thing l used to put up with on my old Toranas but not in a a new $50k car.

If T6man is right about the muffler change then it should be an easy fix. Ford must have got a cheaper supplier <_<

I havnt heard the new sound yet. (Get the car in 3 weeks)

But if the only change is swapping a baffled muffler to a straight through muffler wouldnt this result in a freeer flowing exhaust?

I don't know what you guys are whinging about.... I find the exhaust okay and I don't know why anyone would want to get it changed to cancel out any cabin noise because there isn't that much. To the guys who are critical of the exhaust note, have you been in a March/April build XR6T, or are you going on what other people have posted here? :trauma:
