Hey ppl,

I took my car in for a simple oil/filter change & tyre rotation at 37500kms (I like to change to oil between the major services). To my surprise, they called me up to let me know I need new front rotors and pads. Pads fair enough but the rotors too??

Apparently that's how long the premium brake rotors last. At $650 each and $220/pad, its not cheap!! And if this is required every 40k kms or so this is a significant maintenance cost that people should be aware of.

Or am I just braking too much :) I do have the Phase II kit and had it installed at 31k kms. Most of the time I drive the car casually with the odd spirited drive of course :)

Have I been shafted or is this the norm with the premium brakes?

Cheers

Rob

Yep, I have heard this from a few people now. I am sure that alot of people do not know this though. Funny how the dealers don't tell you this when you first buy the car :)

Fair enough, though my front pads are at around 40% rears at 70% after 26000k's and discs look fine, that's on a heavier GT. Depends on driving style. Also a quick few phone calls after seeing your scary prices, saw me able to get a set of front Premo pads for under $200 and front rotors for around half your quoted price, so effectively could have all parts for close to $800, which is not too bad at all

Hmmmm. You mean you can get the premium rotors for around half the price I was quoted? Genuine factory ones? If this is the case, I might do some phoning around to several dealers and find out the difference in prices. I would have thought all Ford dealers would charge the same for parts? If this is not so, I will be calling the dealer and asking them what is going on.
