Engine Running Rough

Featured Replies

Has anyone else experienced an intermittent engine problem, where the car all of a sudden starts running really roughly and won’t rev at all, like its not getting fuel. When you turn the car off and re-start it runs fine and everything seems okay. It started happening at about 8,000 klms and there seems to be no reason as to what causes it and may happen 2 or 3 times in one nite and not happen for 6 weeks. I’ve been into the dealer and been in contact with Ford and they can’t find anything wrong or what’s causing the problem. Of course it never happens when it’s at the dealer.

Sounds like its going into limp mode, suprised your dealer hasnt found anthing though, ask em to flash with latest update

Definitely sounds like limp mode. I'm not surprised your dealer can't find anthing wrong, if there anything like the ones I've seen, there flatout finding the front of the car, let alone anything that is wrong with it, especially if they are picking up the tab!

It also comes as no surprise that the car behaves as it should when you take it there, they definetely have a mind of there own.

If your ECU did NOT "throw a code" then Ford will tell you it did not happen. My car has done all this and lots, lots more, but has never thrown a code.

I struggle to believe that a modern performace computer controlled engine can start running like it has thrown a couple of conrods out thru the side of the block and not trigger some kind of code/fault/response/record etc. for technitions to see.

Your not on your own.

Do you live in a city because if you are like me live in the sticks (by choice stuff the cities ) your dealer probably hasn't got the gear to trouble shoot even though he may be a recognised dealer or service agent good luck with your dramas :spoton:

My XR6 used to do that on occasion, for no reason, run rough and almost stall etc, normally after first starting it. Turn it off and back on and it was fine. Ford could not find a fault.

Touch wood, the XR8 hasn't done this yet!

I don't believe it Ford has finally admitted there is something wrong with the computer program in the xr6t's and I'm told by the dealer that a fix is being issed by ford in the next couple of weeks, so book your cars in.

If this is the case then they should issue a recall..

Only time I have it is the occasional time when I go to start the car, and it fails to start. When I next start the car, it runs like crap. I think its do do with the sensors or ECU getting out of whack and things not quite running in sync.

I find that if you give it 20 seconds and a gentle rev, things quickly settle in fine and run perfectly. You can then drive as normally.

I havent tried immediately turning the car off, waiting a few secs and starting again. It could very well work as it would reset the ECU to start mode. However from my old carby-car days, if its running like crap I dont turn it off...I get paranoid it wont start again!
