October 4, 200422 yr #1 Dad was coming home from his 7 week holiday yesterday after 7,000KM and was almost home (around Coffs Harbour) and he pulled out to overtake a little Hyundai, gave the car a squirt and pulled back in.Next thing he looks in the rearview mirror and see's the flashing lights and all the rest and pulls over. He got told that he was doing 119. He saw the radar and all that was then told it was double fines, double demerits and the rest...The policeman then quizzed him a bit on his driving record and in the end said 'It's been a long day, Slow Down and Have a Good Day'. This was with a 19KM over the limit offence and 'Double Points/Demerits' weekend!See there are more than a few Non-Revenue Raising Decent HWP Officers out there To whoever it was that thought for themselves, Cheers
October 4, 200422 yr #3 Yeh I think you will find most of the Highway Police are starting to settle down a bit, they can pick people who break the law on a regular basis pretty easy...I think if your overtaking on a two lane stretch of road you should be able to go over the speed limit 15 kms as the quicker you get back on your side of the road the safer it is... Even better if everyone sat on 100 kms an hour then you wouldnt have to!!
October 4, 200422 yr #4 I've been about around town today a fair bit. It's amazing what you see people do given the double demerits wabbit season.1. I saw three people do U turns at lights today (more than I'd see in a month)...2. A guy in a c'dore doing about 100 in a 60 zone straight past me.3. The usual wankers tail gating you because you're doing the speed limit.. with kids on board.4. A guy in a WRX go past me on the Gore Hill F'way (80 zone) doing, I don't know... 120 perhaps. Then another from a few lanes over , also in a WRX, who spotted the first guy and decided to make chase for a bit of fun. Several minutes later, just before the entrance to the Sydney Harbour tunnel, here's an XR8 HWP, lights flashing, just pulled over the second WRX. Me thinks double points, him doing prolly 130 to catch the first guy... adios license.Morons. Edited October 4, 200422 yr by Scootre
October 4, 200422 yr #5 Well its good that some police can tell the difference between reckless speeding which is dangerous to others, and what I call neccessary speeding, which is exactly what Lumpy described, a quick squirt to quickly and safely make an overtaking manouver and then back to the speed limit.Dazza.
October 4, 200422 yr #6 I find that if I'm working and the person is reasonable enough I'm willing to give a caution, it can do more good than a fine. But if I met up with an idiot , I hope he has been saving his penny's.

The copper obviously saw that your Dad was driving with due care and attention, and acted accordingly. Now if your Dad hadn't pulled in after over-taking, then it may have been a different story.Unfortunately speed cameras don't take this into consideration :(.

Exactly... I did have an encounter once where I was late for a meeting and got caught doing 92 in an 80 zone, the police officer was very professional although he still fined me he did it in less than a minute so I could be on my way again, normally it takes alot longer than that.Dazza.

Yep, but he probably had a pressing engagement too - hurrying off to catch his next victim, of maybe even rushing back to the station to get his share of the donuts before the damn greedy cops back there ate them all.
