Went to the ford dealersip today for a bit of a fact finding mission to see if I could trade my 2002 phantom ute that has done 27000km for a sedan at a reasonable price... I was expecting the answer to be no, but I found that I could get into a 2004 lightning strike sedan with 8000km on it for $10 a week more than I am paying on the ute at the moment. I dont use the ute as a ute but I am still having trouble deciding what to do.

Can anyone offer some opinions?

For the sake of getting into a car almost 2 years younger and gaining a back seat for $10/week, I think it would be great idea to take them up on their offer.

Of course haggle them some more before signing anything.

What options does the sedan have, is it similarily specced as your ute?

You say you don't use the ute as a ute.

Would you use the back seat (of sedan) as a seat?

just saying, do you need a sedan?

I just happen to like the utes more as a convenient and versatile transport for me and the missus..... don't have to worry about "tin lids". (or transporting in-laws )

Seriously though, are you having any problems with your ute?

There are still lots of issues with the sedans, and I assume the changeover price was on a runout BA series I ..... driveline clunk due to IRS / diff / etc?

If your ute is still good, and has NOT got any issues which pis$ you off, I'd say keep it, and use any additional money you have to upgrade the output.

$10/week ..... You could quite easily fit an APS stage 1 (with injectors) for that outlay and change your perception of XR6T's a heck of a lot more than buying a 2004 sedan.

by the way, I also reckon the ute's hold their value better than the sedans. ;)

Just my opinion.

cheers

I think I should explain a bit more....

I love the ute, apart from the standard run of the mill problems like shudder, 120km/h animal collisions and being keyed twice.. it has been a really good car. After reading of all the problems people in here have had, I think I got one of the good ones.

I should also state that it is not a T and I am not trading up tp a T (finances will not allow it :spoton:)

I found that the tray was being used by others more than myself and when more than 2 people had to be carted around they didn't like the idea of being tied in the back!

I was going to get another small car for the missus next year so she has a little buzz box and something to cart the kids around in when the time comes to have some. But it may have ment that I would have to loose the ute and get a different car myself. So I see this as a way where everyone wins... I keep the XR and we gain a couple more seats for when they are needed.

But you snooze... you loose.....

While I was thinking all this over, the lightning strike had sold. so I am now waiting for a 7/03 blueprint with 12000km to come in for me to look at. This one is a bit cheaper too.

So hopefully tomorrow I will be a member of "Team Blueprint".. If you will have me that is??
