I bought the oil myself and booked it in at my local mechanic. He supplied the filter, used my oil and left the leftover oil in the boot. I think he charged about $30.Plus while my wife was picking the car up she organised for our son to do a weeks work experience there. All in all, it worked out pretty well. Guest EXR24T Guests Posted 04/07/04 11:36 PM Share Posted 04/07/04 11:36 PM G'day killbot , if I read your post correctly you say you have never changed engine oil before , if this is the case I would strongly recomend that you use a local mechanic to carry out the work . I'm sure that there would not be a problem with you watching the procedure the mechanic carries out so you can judge whether you could do the oil change yourself in future . As far as which oil to use , I myself use Royal Purple 10w/40 Synerlec synthetic oil , as already stated , it seems to be a personel choice in regards to engine oil . With 7500 km's on the clock the engine will have been run in with mineral oil so semi or full synthetic can be used !! all the best EXR24T. Using synth will prevent your motor (piston rings) from wearing in properly. I used castrol magnatec as I have heard its great to run your car in with. My first change was at about 2000 and I do it every 7500ks.
