Well after all that, the guy with the Aristo decided to keep it for his wife, the Stagea I drove was a ok but then it stalled twice when I turned right on the test drive, and the other XR6 Turbos I drove were clapped out sh*tboxes, apart from one very nice and tidy bionic blue BF2 auto but he wanted $15k for it. Shame, I'd have liked that one. I found a very clean MY04 Forester XT with perfect history and a few nice mods, so I jumped on it. Not exactly what I wanted but it drives really well and at least I've got some boost back in my life. It'll make for a good sleeper. Thanks for the help guys, I might have to mill around here anyway, despite becoming a soccer mum.
  3. Pretty sure I've seen a video of some people who'd enjoy having their bits run over I've got an Aristo and Stagea lined up to view this weekend. Fingers crossed another BF pops up for sale before I buy one of them.
  4. SS has 270km, 210k on the engine (replaced under warranty because of piston slap) but it only did a HG because the radiator let go and it got a bit hot. I replaced the rad and it actually runs and drives fine, doesn't get hot, just left some oil in the coolant, so I'm really assuming it needs a HG. No water in the oil. I'll try to get rid of it as is, as it needs too much other stuff, rear main, PS pump etc etc. About $3500 to get it sorted and then it'll probably need a clutch anyway. And it's slow and boring. Will probably part it out so some drifter can have an LS1 and T56 for their Silvia, leather and body stuff to a P plater for his exec. That's the plan anyway.
  5. It's one of the only turbo VQs, good engine and definitely in that price range. It can be a bit of a gamble with imports but I'm usually ok at spotting a fraud. I normally love buying cars but it's a bit of a pain this time. Might have to try and stump up a bit of extra coin and look for an FG. Anyone want to buy a VX SS with a blown headgasket for $4k? lol
  6. It'd be an M35 Stagea, so VQ25DET. Pretty easy to get 300kw at all 4 out of them. I've got a mate sending me details of an Aristo that's owned by a guy at protune, who deal with 2J stuff, so I'm hoping it'll be a good'n. I was keen on a Falcon because they're newer than all the import stuff I'm used to, but it hasn't translated into better condition :(
  7. Thanks for the replies! Unfortunately I am in a bit of a rush. Agree about the ZF and I missed a great one by a day last week. I'm also looking at BA2 and up manuals, but they are thin on the ground. I thought I'd found another one worth looking at but noticed a Monster sticker on it, and on closer inspection of the pics can see oil all over the engine bay. Frustrating. Also considering Stageas and Aristos now, but fingers crossed I'll find an XR6. I've borrowed a car for a couple of weeks last night, so that buys me some time.

  9. Hi all, I've been lurking around here for a while, thought I'd say hi. This is a great source of info, there's some sketchy and contradictory stuff written about these cars elsewhere. I've had a couple of Fords before, a KH Laser and a EF Fairmont. More recently I’ve had a S14a 200sx which I loved and modified, tracked and drifted lots for many years, a 3L Liberty, and most recently a stupid VX SS which has done a headgasket amongst other things. Also have an dirty S12 Gazelle track car with a CA18. Once I get myself an XR I’ll be around here plenty J I’m looking for an XR6t in Vic at the moment and have been struggling to find one that’s up to scratch. Looks like I’ll have to lower my expectations a little and was hoping you might be able to give me some guidance. Car will be my daily, engine mods would be limited to intake, cat, injectors and tune. If it’s a BA it’ll get valve springs. I could only get an admission of a front end hit when I pointed out that the bonnet had been off, which makes me suspicious. All silver interior trim needs replacing. Seemed to have a decent PS leak near the pump. Is that normal? Seems pricey for what it is, would $8-9k be reasonable?
