  1. Yeah its not the first time that my family has bought a "lemon" Ford product.....we are just too faithful to the oval badge (well except I have owned 2 mazdas in the last 4yrs) Anyway apparently the complete engine is going to be replaced and any assoicated parts that may have been damaged as well.....seems my phone calls to certain people within Ford engineering today may have worked Will keep ya's all informed, when I get more information.
  2. Yeah when the engine just goes bang that is a big worry, I was just lucky it didnt happen when the missus was driving the car. Lets just say shes very very angry about it all at the moment and me well I now wish I had bought a GT or a Clubsport R8 Oh well, lets see if Fords after sales service has improved at all since the last time I bought a new ford (1994) Will keep ya posted on what exactly it was that went, when I get down to the dealer tomorrow afternoon
  3. Oct 2008. Car had 6kms on it when I test drove it (It was there showroom car)
  4. Yeah they've given me a automatic Ford Ranger for 2 days and then they are giving me something else (probably a fiesta ) Actually having the Ranger is ok cos I get to compare it to the missus BT50 (yes I know they are the same car underneath)
  5. Hehehe id rather be fixing clutchs than dropping pistons. Well I will post up more info on the engine blow up after I hear from them tommorow
  6. Well I have been told not to expect it this side of easter.... there goes the trip to melbourne that the missus and I had planned if we dont get it back in time..... shouldve bought a bloody pushrod V8
  7. Yeah true ford is good a spilling sh*t but my dealer knows my mechanical background/knowledge and one of the head guy (Lee Kernich) at Fords powertrain development use to work with me at MMAL research and development.. Hopefully he gets a look in on the engine blow up. Sorry for all the whinging, I guess im just upset that a near on $56000 new car has shat itself so quickly and ironically right in front of my old workplace (MMAL)
  8. Yeah itll be a "long" motor BUT will it be a complete motor (with new turbo etc on it), I highly doubt it knowing Ford. I also asked them if they were going to replace the cat convertor etc because it got dumped with a gutful of oil, the response I got was probably not because it "looks" fine, just a bit wet (just like they said about the turbo when they pulled it off) Im really getting depressed with it all. Oh well I guess time will tell if it gets fixed properly, so far ive been treated ok by my dealer.
  9. Yeah im preparing myself for the worst and expect the car to be "roughly" put back together after a engine change..... Ive already pre warned them that if there is one scratch or dent on the car or any grease on the cashmere leather I will go off (im not a good person to upset ) At least they know not to bullsh*t me as I have vast mechanical expierience and they also know that I worked for MMAL for 10yrs in R&D
  10. Well as my thread title says, have I bought a problem child AKA G6ET..... Reason I say the above is today my G6ET shat itself in a big cloud of blue smoke and steam. It seems the turbo or engine on my less than 1 week old (only has 907kms on the clock) brand new car has died in a huge smokey display just a street from my Ford dealer. The car started making a bad "ticking" noise a couple of mins before and I thought sh*t that sounds like "rattly lifters", as I was in some heavy traffic I couldnt just pull over to have a quick looksy under the bonnet and seeing as I was going past my ford dealer I thought I may as well just pull in there but of course the car died right out in front of the now defunct mitsubishi factory here in Adelaide. Upon inspection after the above happened the car seem to have a sump full of water and oil (by looking on the dipstick and also seeing that the coolant tank was empty) The head mechanic agreed that the turbo has died or the engine has dropped a piston. Well heres some news as I was writing this thread, my Ford dealer rang.... They have the turbo off the car and it "looks" fine BUT upon lifting the head off (in record time I might add) they said number 3 piston is gone! and the bore is gouged badly. He said seeing as this car is so new and of very low Kms, ford corporate are now getting involved. Oh great how long will it take to get my car back now that those turkeys have there noses in it.
  11. Hi guys, just wondering what springs people have used to lower there FG's. Ive just bought a G6ET and would like to lower it around 30mm front and 40mm rear. Now kings have told me that there KFFL-40SSL (front) and KFRL-68SSL (rear) will lower my car approximately 25mm front and 35mm rear but having used king springs in the past on some of my other cars, I found them a bit harsh and some have sagged after a few months in the car. On my MPS3 that I have just sold I used Eibach springs and they were awesome but quite expensive. What other springs are available for the FG. Pedders? Lovells? Your opinions are appreciated :liar:
  12. Expensive Daewoo have been using the water based paint system (waterbourne) on there commodores car bodies since the VS model. My dads employer actually did the paint shop upgrade for Expensive Daewoo back in 1997 and then again for the VE model, which further refined the waterbased system (the VS commo had clear coat issues) My expierience from working in the car industry has been you can get the plastics paint close to a match but never 100% spot on due to light refraction and colour absorbtion, also its hard for car companys because as you said the majority of there plastic are paint "Off Site" by the suppliers.
  13. Looks great in white mate Im really looking forward to picking G6ET up this week
  14. Not in SA with the options that I wanted in a XR6T. I got this GE6T cheaper and the change will buy the complete LSD centre out of my mates FG XR8 auto, as he has fitted a new unit with the 3.73 manual gear set and besides I didnt buy the car to do fully sik skids or track days.....that's what my track/club car is for
  15. Im used to low cars, my current MPS which is lowered, is alot lower than the G6ET and my club/track car that I drive on the street on weekends is also very low. Just got to be aware of the height of curbs. My old BA xr6t was dropped on superlows/super super lows and didnt have to many scrapage problems. Im only looking to lower the G6ET about 30mm allround, which will make it look nice I reckon.
  16. Thanks mate, I just hope ive made the right choice
  17. Adrain Brian Ford was where I bought it from. I bought the car they had just put on display in there showroom.
  18. I was just about to ask the same question too mate.
  19. Thanks mate, will put pics up once I pick the car up. First jobs once I pick it up is to lower it and paint the silver parts of the grilles ether black or ego and then get my mate to tint the windows.
  20. Well I ended up signing up for a new G6E turbo, ego in colour with cashmere interior. Pick it up next wednesday.....All I got to do now is put my MPS3 back to stock
  21. Im lucky as my missus loves driving manuals I guess the main reason im leaning towards the manual car ive looked at is that its got the luxury pack option fitted where as the auto has cloth interior and those horrible looking 18" wheels. Might have to throw a G6E turbo in to the mix of cars im looking at as well.
  22. Hi Guys, ive been out today looking and pricing a new FG XR6 turbo and have trimmed it down to 2 cars. One is a manual in sensation blue with luxury pack and tech pack and the other car is a Auto in lightening strike, with premium sound, tech pack and alloy spare wheel. Im a manual kinda guy but the ZF auto is a pretty sweet gearbox but im really undecided on which of the above cars to go for. The missus doesnt give a crap which one I get Which one do you guys reckon is the go? Im interested in others thoughts
  23. Hi guys, ive just bought my old mans Nov 02 built XR6T manual. Its only done just over 57000kms and is still like new. He has done a few engine mods to it (Typhoon intercooler, CAPA flash tuner, valve springs, 3 1/2 dump pipe and hi flow cat, injectors and fuel pump) and its currently putting out 318Kws@wheels, which im happy with for now Since ive bought it I have fitted lovells superlow springs allround and when I had it wheel aligned after lowering it is running 1.5deg negative camber rear and just over 1deg negative on the front, so no need for any kits for me just yet. Oh and its only on its second set of tyres since new, the car never suffered any wear problems when my dad owned it either. He mustve bought a good one!
