Oil Coolers

Hi guys as I mention in the intercooler thread I was working on oil coolers for the auto and engine.

I have now fitted them,what I have done is make up a mounting unit with a transmission oil cooler and engine oil cooler with a fan attached to the unit.

As some of you know under the left hand rear of the turbo there is a lot of room so I have mounted them under there with braided hoses running up to the auto and adaptor to the oil filter.

This removes the heat of the auto from the rad and also cools the engine oil.

As it has only just been fitted I have not been able to do full temps yet but with the hot day we had on the gold coast today I let the motor idle for 30 minutes after taking it for a run,with a/c on and sitting in hot workshop the main cooling fans did not go on to high speed at all.

The fan on the cooler as an adjustable controll on it and I have temporary set it to cut in at oil temp of 70 degrees.

At this temp the fan runs for about 2 minutes when I cuts in when driving,if driving hard on boost it runs more of course as oil temps rise.

I'm keen to see costs & road test reports from you. Should reduce heat considerably & improve grunt factor!

Holy watsaname,that's some serious cooling, what about your other oil cooler,did you ditch it?

The trans must have extra cooling,was thinking of getting the V8 trans cooler but this looks the way to go.give your self a free plug mate, what is your shop called, Im in SA and dont know.

Hi guys the car this is fitted to is a mates car I was going to put it on mine first but he insisted I do his.

Vik the smaller cooler is the same as my engine oil cooler so when I do mine I will just move it to this location.

My workshop is Ian Schmidt Auto Repairs.

Although it is not cheap to do I think it is great insurance when you are going to do any mods to keep the trans and engine oil cooler.

Hope to have mine fitted soon so I can do more tests.
