Dvd Player Installation

Hoping someone out there can give me some advice on integrating a DVD player into the factory system. I have the standard "interior command module" :gooff: and have decided my rugrat deserves some entertainment- so a couple of screens into the headrests and a DVD player mounted probably under dash on passenger side- something like that anyway, depending on what I end up buying (can't afford anything too flash).

What I was wondering is how I integrate it into the sound system so I get the volume aswell as the pictures. I seem to recall their being an option to have an MP3 player or something like that added in- anyone know how?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

The option for patching into the sound system is the Aux 'mp3' input. It takes the output from the headphone jack from any audio device. (including a DVD player)

It sits under the tissue box out of sight.

The cost is $65 complete and fitted by your dealer. There are people on this site who have posted comprehensive instructions, with lots of clear pictures, on how to build your own version, including pinouts etc.

There are DVD players available for kids that sling over the head rests of the front seats and open up, exposing the screen and the 'head unit'. to viewing from the rear seats.

These DVD playes are fitted to a carry bag that is designed for this purpose and they fold up to make the unit portable. Some of these units have dual screens for both front seats.

Another option is to take along a laptop.

And yet another is to wait for the PSP (Play Station Portable) - this is a hand held PS gaming unit that also plays DVD's/CD's etc

All the deviced descibed above will patch straight into your new Aux - mp3 input to take advantage of your car's sound system.

I like the sound of installing a laptop. I've been thinking along those lines for a while, to the point that I would install a touch screen and build a web interface that I could control simple things like volume, channel, mode etc. I have a mate who is a web engineer and he thinks something like that would be a no-brainer.
