  1. Glenn - THANKS FOR THAT DOC! What an amazing thing - they actually wire it all up for you! Wonder where I should buy the bulbs - Ford? Or just a regular petrol station? The footwell illumination is one thing I miss - the other is a 'dead pedal' but I can live without it (I'm reasonably tall, maybe that helps).
  2. Here are my previous vehicles - 1974 (?) Ford XA Falcon 500 4.0 litre ($500) 1987 Ford Telstar Turbo 2.0 litre ($5400) 1990 Mazda 626 Turbo 2.2 litre ($9250) 2004 Ford BA Falcon XR6 Turbo 4.0 litre (~$52000) Notice a bit of a jump in the graph??
  3. Thanks for the replies, fellas. Yeah it actually happens all the time, regardless of speed. And by that, I mean 'starting the car cold in the morning' and you'll hear it, finish a big run and park the car (but don't switch it off) and you'll hear it. It does indeed seem to be sounding from the sides/rear of the car and not the engine bay ... Took it to my dealer this morning, service department was closed but my salesguy came out and had a look, said that it was the turbo spooling and that sound travelled down to the resonator? He was not sure that it was normal though, and mine was the last T on the lot so we couldn't start another one. My understanding is that the turbo does SFA until you start pushing some exhaust gases through it, then it spools? And only once you have XX amount of exhaust going through does it start producing boost (that is, denser/more air than regular atmosphere)? This is all from Turbo's-when-you've-just-got-your-license-101 so it's probably barely accurate at best. Took the T for a run to Bateman's Bay, Mogo and back again. Used the fuel card for the first time (never have to budget for fuel again, amazing!!), and the odo reads about 640km's now. Just 360 to go and I can rev it past 4000 and up to 5000 instead. Just for the record - this car is frighteningly quick, even keeping the revs under 4k. I may never stop smiling at this rate!!!!
  4. Hi all, I now have a fantastic 12/03 XR6 Turbo sitting downstairs, Mercury Silver, leather trim, premium sound, auto. Can't wipe the smile off my face! Just a couple of quick questions though, since I've never owned a new car before. When sitting at idle (even just starting cold, but louder after a run), there is a very audible, very high-pitched whistle from the outside of the car. I let the car sit there for 30 seconds to cool off and idle away, hop out, and the sound is loud enough to hear clearly. I park in underground parking so it's near silence when I'm listening for it, but I've heard the sound when pulled over in the street with traffic going by too. Any ideas? I've spoken with Ford and they are going to have a listen on Monday; the mechanic said that it's probably just air-con cycling out the excess air or something? But I did a run this morning for 30 minutes, and it did the same thing, and I was sure not to use the air-con at all. Also (possibly related), there is a quieter, high-pitched sound from within the car, even with the windows wound up, driving along at any speed (didn't take it past 80 this morning, but it was there the whole time). It's not boost - I can take my foot off the accelerator and the tone of the sound does not change. Thought it might be the radio, so I switched it off (not just lowering volume to 0, I actually killed the radio) and the sound was still there just as loud. I wonder whether it's just me hearing the outside noise when I'm driving, and I can hear it externally when parked? Wandering around the car didn't help, I couldn't pinpoint the source of the whistling sound. I hope that Ford can fix it.. really! It's my first ever new car (first one I've bought in the same DECADE that it was built!), so I'd hate to have a bad experience with Ford. The dealership should be OK though, my girlfriend's dad is Fleet Manager there  Thanks for the great forum, guys. Phil

Hi guys, I made a donation, PM'd the Admin, and nada. Should I just try PM'ing again?
  6. OK, not futuristic - 'modern'. Sleek. I dunno .. I just get the impression that it won't age as badly. When I took my bike to a bike shop once, the owner looked it over and said 'you picked a good colour - in 5 years, you still won't be able to pick when it was made'. The bike is dark grey/light grey, and is 9 years old already! Bikes like the early 90's Fireblades (with blue/white/red) look awfully 'early 90's'. Mercury Silver will age gracefully, I hope!
  7. Cam, are you still waiting on the return of your car? Have you heard anything? What are these 'Premium Sound ICC Problems' you speak of?
  8. Thanks for the welcome, everyone. Just for the record, I was about to order a Phantom XR6T but at the final minute, chose a Mercury Silver (with appropriate colour matching stuff inside). Whilst I liked the Phantom, each time I saw one on the road, I liked it less and less. I've had the Mercury Silver XR6 wallpaper on my PC for a few weeks and I like it more and more each time I see it .. so I had a nervous sort of feeling getting the Phantom, but from when I made the phone call to my novation company and changed the colour, I've felt at ease the whole time. I'll have the car for at least 3 years (maybe more) so I don't want to regret the colour choice one day down the track. The Mercury Silver (or as I describe it to my friends 'like, a dirty silver colour') looks more professional, sleek, and dare I say it - futuristic? I have a dark grey motorbike too, they'll look nice together  Again, thanks for the great advice from those in the know. I've chosen Solartint in Belconnen to do the tint job, a guy at work had them do it on his Subaru Liberty wagon and he won't shut up about how good a job they did (he even emailed me some pics). They know about the whole 'rear window aerial' business and have some fancy non-metallic but non-dye tint for it. And finally - HgAg doesn't mean someone is old - I'm 28. I just like stylish rather than garish things, especially when it's as great an expense as a new car! Thanks again, Phil
  9. Hi all! Well after going through all of the paperwork for a novated lease (it was painful) I'm getting an XR6T soon, in Mercury Silver, with leather trim and premium sound, XR floormats, XR scuff plate inserts. And headlight protectors. Oh yeah - and it's an auto. My first new car ever, so I'm incredibly excited!!! I should find out this afternoon when the delivery date is. Thanks to all on these forums - I've read some great info on the premium sound system being able to play DVD's, do SatNav, etc., and some important info on tinting. See you on the roads! Phil
