Hard to tell if your thumb is bending or the shaft is moving. There will be a little bit of shaft play and there will be a little bit of noise. Sometimes you can hear the turbo winding down when you get out of the car after you switch it off.

It's pretty easy to do but make sure you leave a landing area for the closest end of the flap (to the housing) or it could jam open. You can almost make the hole slightly D shaped but not so extreme.

Pulled the turbo off today, I’m still concerned about the amount of shaft play. I had a look at the new oil feed fitting to the turbo and it has approx 1mm bore hole in the end! It’s full bore hole on the tapered end but on the other end is restricted. I feel like this is a machining error?ill try and upload some photos

a lot of ball-bearing turbo's have oil-flow restrictors like that and yours is no exception to needing one :)

But you’re all missing the fact Garrett GT-GTX-GTW series turbochargers have a built in restrictor and it’s much bigger than 1mm ….. Ohhh Nooo Spaghetti ooooo’s
