Share Posted 08/02/21 05:14 AM Posted 08/02/21 05:14 AM Share Hello gents, Who's done the 1400hp shafts themselves? I've heard it's a horrible job. I'm tossing up which way to go. The 1400hp shafts, plus wheel bearings come out 20% more expensive. I'm told that I'm very unlikely to break a 700hp shaft with less than 1000hp, especially with no drag racing, stalling up etc. Although manual is worse for shock loading. Share Posted 08/02/21 07:44 AM Posted 08/02/21 07:44 AM Share 20% more expensive for 100% more capability seems like a no brainer
Author Share Posted 08/02/21 09:04 AM Posted 08/02/21 09:04 AM Share Yeah, the only thing I'm worried about is if its a nasty job that I can't do myself, the extra cost of installation may push it to 40% more expensive. Which is potentially 40% more than required in the first place
Share Posted 08/02/21 09:30 PM Posted 08/02/21 09:30 PM Share Out of curiosity, what's different in putting 700hp shafts in vs 1400?
Author Share Posted 09/02/21 04:28 AM Posted 09/02/21 04:28 AM Share 700s bolt in like factory replacements. 1400s require new hub assembly and new wheel bearings
Author Share Posted 27/02/21 10:26 AM Posted 27/02/21 10:26 AM Share Ended up ordering the 1400hp suckers. Comes with new hubs and bearings

Author Share Posted 02/04/21 01:22 AM Posted 02/04/21 01:22 AM Share So I've pulled the rear cradle out and I'm going to town on replacing all bushes while I've got the knuckles out for these new axles. But I have a question about the diff axle seals. Is there an alternative to the Ford ones, which seem to cost $60 each? It seems excessive for just a piece of rubber. Is there a repco equivalent that anyone has used?
Author Share Posted 04/04/21 04:06 AM Posted 04/04/21 04:06 AM Share Ok, Repco do sell a Kelpro version. Part number 98258. $30 per seal. Just changed them out. Bit of a bastard to get the old ones out.
Share Posted 04/04/21 08:43 AM Posted 04/04/21 08:43 AM Share I found the same on one I replaced that was leaking it was an absolute pita to change. Nekminit it still leaks I noticed inside the rim was scratched and assumed I’d done it given how much of a beach it was to take out but since it was leaking beforehand I think whoever had changed them before me had already scratched it up
