I'm wanting to pick up a FG M86 ute (or wagon) diff for my BA. Doesn't matter if it's LSD or open center but how do I tell if a particular diff is an M86 without relying on stickers or metal tags?

You're looking for an external source or and internal source? as far as I know, it's fairly generic on the outside aside from the markings like stickers/tags. Internally there's probably a way but would require reasonable knowledge on the topic, one would imagine.

do you have a picture? I doubt I'd have the knowledge to help with an internal clue... but externally I'd have a chance of recognizing something like a marking/sticker, but surely you can do that sort of determination yourself :P

Yeah that's right, alot of these parts at wreckers are missing tags/stickers. A sticker number would be handy as I may come across one though. An easy tell without might not be possible...
