Hi fellows This message pops on my dash “TRANSMISSION FAILURE” with sometimes transmission dies and don’t engage anything and  I have to put it into shift mode to drive or have to switch the ignition off and on to drive,

has anyone had that issue before and fixed it?

would really appreciate if someone can reply

no milkshake thing though and I have serviced the tranny too

2010 Zf6 Auto

cheers

:Welcome2FordXR6t:

weird sporadic messages that are fixed via Key-Off-Key-On like that are often due to a failing battery or failing battery terminal connection(s).

no, it doesn't sound like an ECU issue.

just get the battery tested.

then next step is to run it up on a dyno to see if you can replicate it with logging to figure out what sensor might be failing if it's a sensor.

will do that mate

It Revs high in second gear when I put it on the shift mode after it dies but no thud though, it does probably once a week

just curious if anyone here  had the same message on the dash and fixed it?

yeah, if it's not "revving high" in a gear while you're on full throttle, then it's likely your transmission is perfectly fine and it's either a sensor or an electrical connection (e.g. the stuff I talked a bout above).

Ok so The transmission fault comes on in about 80ks for about 20 mins into the drive, can't change gears or anything it goes into manual mode and can't do anything to the car unless you switch it off and on

so basically it goes into “limp mode”

now what are the solutions for this issue, anyone fixed it or had that problem in zf6

As keith said it sounds electrical. A shop can check the fluid level and condition for peace of mind but if you haven't had your battery checked I would highly recommend it.

I had an issue in mine fixed by changing the ignition coils for example (not saying yours are at fault).
