Ok I must be doing something wrong.

I put 100ml E85 in a graduated cylinder.
Then I put 20ml water in.

Shook it up for about 30 seconds. Waited almost 10 minutes and all that separated out was as below.

Hmmmm. What did I do wrong? ecdd51e63270f629bf781fb65aa0a572.jpg

Not sure.  Just buy the proper kit.   It is labelled for the correct percentage.

That won't really change anything. It's just a different sized vessel with some branding on it. The concept is exactly the same.

The issue above is not with calculating the ethanol % (that's pretty easy to do).
Just wondering if I shook it for too long? Or not long enough? Or maybe I need to leave it for longer?

It just felt weird standing around a petrol station forecourt to 10 minutes staring at a glass tube so I called it quits. I think the Indian bloke behind the counter thought I was making a bomb haha

Ok so 15ml of water, 45ml fuel.
I get a separation line at the 54ml mark.

According to the below calculator that is 86% which I don't believe. My flex fuel sensor suggests around 79-80% from that station.

Hmmm tried again with 70ml fuel and 25ml water. Separation line at 85ml. According to the above calculator that's 86% still.

Hmmm. I hope it's not the measuring device. It's a brand new Innovate Motorsports one.

Not the dual %/temp one and you've got it set showing temp in degrees F ?

;)
