Hi all, wanted to see if anyone is having boost creep issues with this particular external gate? Or peoples experience using this exact gate on a barra.

Not sure if its possiboy too small for the 4ltr barra? Running a 3584RS 1.21 rear.

Trying to ramp in boost as it is too aggressive, so put a lower psi spring like a 7 or 10 and the boost will creep to 18-20psi pretty quickly.

I run a haltech barra plug n play and am in open loop.

Cheers

Zac

The 50mm TS gates are a bit of a bugger sometimes for creep but with a RS84 and 1.21 it won’t be the gate, it’ll be the plumb back integration on the dump and or where the gate is being fed from

The best location is off the manifold at the collector area, not the rear housing !

Disconnect the plumb back, let it scream for a single run and work out if it still creeps ;)

that turbo is going to come on late anyway and want to be in the early 20’s PSI wise ultimately for maximum efficiency

Its currently setup as screamer pipe so open.

What I did just notice looking at it, on the top cap of wastegate there is 2 ports to vent to atmosphere, one port had a bung in it and otherside was open... I wonder if that was restricting the diaphram from opening fully?

Are you sure you have it connected as such ?

if so what numbers timing wise have you thrown at it in an attempt to cool EGT down a touch ? Being on E85 you can throw some bigger numbers to see if this helps and has a dramatic effect

being the fact your rear housing is so big it’s all going to come on in a big rush towards the end anyway

Ill have to have a look at timing, around the 14 mark from.memory at wot.

My lines are exactly lile your picture

As I was going through it I did also find the top braided line fitting loose that goes to the wastegate....not sure if air would have leaked or if this would impact it?

Pulled the wastegate off, noticed a crack or missed weld on just before wastegate. Could this be causing wastegate boost creep? Second picture is with torch inside pipe showing hole

I also pulled the gate off and testes spring pressure with a compressor.

14psi spring

Would crack open at 18.75 and fully open at 30psi

10psi spring

Would crack open at 11psi  amd fully open at 22.5 psi

7psi spring

Would crack open at 7.5psi and fully open at 15psi

Any body else done simular test?

that's about right for an external gate... the 14psi spring is obviously a bit stronger than it's rating, but the others are close enough to within spec.
