Hey guys

First time posting, was just wondering. Internals of the motor aside. Is there any difference between a block from a BA to a FG like strength or build wise? Cant seem to find anything besides internals are different

I looked into this last year, From my research BA BF Block possibly stronger with higher nickel content (Unconfirmed) But people are making 1000hp left right & center on BA BF FG blocks so its not really an issue. I'm going to have my block sonic tested before my build to check bore thickness and that is all that counts really.

Primarily, there is no differences between the blocks. However, be sure to sonic test any block that you intend for a turbo. As early casting seem to be more prone to core shift.

I'm currently building a spare engine an went through 3 blocks (BA, BF and early FG) , to find one good one. After boring and honing the FG block 0.020", my minimum cylinder thickness is 0.115". The worst that I encountered  was 0.060" in one  area of No.1 cylinder, on the BA block. kkep in mind that that figure was from a standard block, with no additional machining which is required for the new slugs. Taking another 0.010 off that wall, would likely result in failure....

Yes, they are 0.020" oversize. I can't remember how thick the ceramic coating was though. We had to allow for that also. 😄
