Hey guys, new here and finding trouble elsewhere regarding my problem ..

have an FG with the ZF 6 Spd auto

recently noticed a click sound when into reverse on start up and the occasional click when it changes gear or backing off the throttle .. it’s not coming from the engine bay that I am sure of, only when gear changes happen.. the sound is not a clunk or bang , just a gentle click sound .. apart from that the auto works great, any ideas as I’m worried the auto is gonna die ..

cheers klay

I would start by checking that the rear wheel nuts are tight then I'd see if the noise was coming from the cv shafts.

Also a d shackle hanging of the tow bar will swing around and make clicking noises.

Might not be that, but it's the first things I'd check.

Lol Naah, loose wheel nuts know that sound and feel, & “CV shafts” think not brother ?.. the click is coming from the auto.. not the engine or rear of the car .. and I removed the dangly ballsacks from the towbar ages ago ???

I had a loose bolt on the flex coupling between the box and drive shaft.

Sounded very similar to what you are describing.

Puff your rods say no....

Okay, get someone to put in reverse while you lay next to the car on the ground. Might help you narrow down the exact location.

“Just a click,

Started softly occasionally then pretty much constant, but only below 60kph.”

That's almost exactly how you would check for cv's and wheel nuts. Reverse and drive a bunch times. Everything I suggested makes clicking sounds under the conditions of the original post and all of them can be checked in the space of a few minutes with the reverse to drive method.

Sure it could also be the flex plate but there are easier things to rule out first.

But hey wtf would I know right?!
