Future of Site - Discussion

Recommended Posts

I think we need to find an alternative hosting option for the site at a cheaper rate.

I will be happy to do $5 a month through patreon then.

I've asked @CJF077 to get a Patreon option available asap while the topic is still current.

Am asking for transparency and that the other issues/queries aren't ignored moving forward.

Am hoping that this "call to arms" can give the XR6T community a say in the direction onwards :)

Got an idea that you want to put forward? Now's the time.

Adding a subforum for "Barra conversions" (those looking to add the turbo 6 to another vehicle) would be one of those

A few suggestions.

Make donating membership an annual thing. To maintain status you donate each year on renewal day.

I cant remember the amounts but Suggest.

Platinum < $100

Gold $50 - $100

Silver $20 - $50

Bronze $20

And just "donating member" < $20

Hey some people may throw in $5 or $10 a year.

YOU NEED TO CHANGE THE DONATION PAGE TO ACCEPT $5  $10. , EVEN BETTER, AMOUNTS PEOPLE CAN TYPE IN. My favorite number is 7 so I may wish to donate $77, cant do that now.

And make milestones appear next to your avatar

"15 year member"

"10 year member"

"5 year member"

Just my 2c worth

That's a good idea - having donation tiers be time limited. Keeping your status because you chucked in $50 in 2004 isn't really motivation to keep donating.

Believe it or not, after all these years, I still have my highly modified 2002 Gold BA XR6T (purchased from new in 2002.

Being Acid Rush in colour and kept in good condition, these early XR6T's are becoming rarer, and though my car is now mostly in safe storage, the site has been an increadible source of help and inspiration, so for that reason I would be happy to pay an annual fee, just to keep my membership alive and help the site push on into the future.

It would be a shame to lose such a valuable resource with the old threads on the this forum.

My only issue with the site is the difficulty posting pics.

I thought once I donated this would get easier and I would get more posting MB available but it didn't change so I stopped regular posting.

I am more than happy to donate once again if I can post pics easily like a few years back. (Paypal option is good too - make it as easy and clear as possible)

Nelsonian, it isn't really the sites fault for the difficulty of posting pics. photophuckit screwed everyone over when they changed their policy.

imgur is difficult to use at the beginning as it is confusing and different to photophuckit.

I am used to it now and know what to look for. maybe donating members should be entitled to a bit more space on the server/website to upload photos.

I also think that those with their own builds and those that have donated, should also be entitled to those additional MB on the website.

This could all be controlled by Moderators as to how much space they can have. just a thought.

Well, if we move to unlimited storage, and have enough funds coming through continually to support that unlimited charges, then perhaps we can allow all images to be hosted by the site it's self... Maybe...

you dont really need MB to post photos. just open a free account with Imgur or similar, upload your pics there, open it up, right click and select 'copy image url'. then just paste it on your post. bingo. 0 MB needed.

Is there a specific thread for builds?

I will contribute to what ever model is adopted.

If members are paying then some transparency around what is being supported would be good.

Most people, including myself, are not aware of what is takes to run a site like this.

Newbie here just bought an XR6 Turbo Tray Back.  I work in IT and would be happy to host the site for free and not charge any membership fees and maybe add some advertising in the future but I am a bit of a socialist and dont like a lot of advertising :-)
