I have a few questions for those that may know.

I saw at the motor show that the Typhoon intercooler is 50% bigger than the standard "T" intercooler. Will this intercooler be 50% more effective ? Does anyone know what the standard intercooler specs are performance wise as against the Typhoon intercooler?

For the Ford parts guys here (MS700), do you have any idea on prices for these intercoolers and what sort of availability there will be and also possible restrictions on buying them? Also would anyone know who makes them for Ford?

That should keep a few people busy for awhile. :smilielol:

geea,

why don't you wait till there's one at your dealer & take it for a test drive on your own. Go home & swap em over & then tell us your thoughts. Just an idea.

He already took an XR8 for a test drive and swaped the bonnets

Geea the intercoolers are made by Garrett.

I like the way you think Scotty. I'll have to try organise this. :hiwelcome:

Don't even joke about it, spoke to a guy on Sunday that works at FPV who worked on the Typhoon & said the the bigger intercooler was even more of a b**ch to fit than the standard one!!! As for part Nos. the car is not actually due for release until Sep./Oct. so I wouldn't expect anything to show up yet!

The standard "small" intercooler (BAT 6K775 A) costs $1061.72 trade!!!!

Id say the Typhoon unit will cost around the 1500 clam mark.

The large Typhoon intercooler wont be listed on Mircocat until later on in the year, I will post up prices and part numbers as soon as I get them. :smilielol: I am keen to do this conversion too, depending on how much FOMOCO charge for the Typhoon unit.

But I like Scotty's idea......

INDUCTION AUTOMOTIVE MAKE INTERCOOLERS FOR TURBOS 0421740324

Its great to have you on the forums Beloyg. I've only read 2 of your 4 posts so far and both are offering advice on 2 very different subjects.

I come to these forums for information and to learn more about my car. I'm more than happy to listen to your advice but I'd love to know a little about you, possibly why I should listen to your advice. I'm not having a go at you as I dont know you, so please dont take these comments the wrong way.

what would be the benefit of a bigger intercooler for the stock T?

Would it gain any KW or just allow the car to run for longer at full throttle?

At what level of modified car (in terms of how many rwkw) would you say a bigger intercooler is neccessary?

Cheers

Hi Geeseman, There are a number of issues to consider when installing a larger/improved intercooler system. Fisrt of all if the improved intercooler has low pressure drop (Which it should have) then the turbo pressure (in the inlet manifold) will increase by 4 to 5 PSI.

At this point the stock injectors are way to small to support the increased air flow of the turbocharger at 10 to 11 psi pressure. With efficient intercooling you need to achieve a huge drop in charge air temperature whilst at the same time minimizing the pressure drop across the entire system. :censored: It is this huge drop in charge air temperature which generates higher power through improved cylinder filling.

In simple terms if the turbocharger is generating 11 psi pressure (measured at the turbo) ideally the pressure in the inlet manifold should not be less than 10 PSI, this equates to a total pressure drop of 1 PSI. Hope this helps your understanding of improved intercooling.
