NZ Cruise 2018. Sept 8-15, South Island

Recommended Posts

Dinner was great, towns great.

Pub was weird - half the blokes were staring at one end of the room where the rugby was on the screen. Other half were staring at the other end of the room where the rugby was on another screen. Girls were intermingled, but not interferring with the staring at all.

I suggested that Pomph ask the bartender to switch one of the screens to show the AFL elim finals, but he thought better of it :(

Drove for a whole 10 mins today. Looking forward to tomorrow.

Had to look it up.

AMG CLS 55

Not sure if the wording/model is the same for the Aussie version.

Comfy AF. 2+2 seats, 4 door coupe.

Will stretch the legs tomorrow and get some pics.

First supercharged car I've driven so looking forward to it.

Really luv Queenstown.  1886 is my fave pub there - try the ribs there if you get a chance

What's the plan for Sunday?

Arrowtown is worth a visit - it's just up the road and the pie shop on the corner as you drive in aint much to look at but has some of the best pies (and pasties) in South Island by my reckoning :beerchug:

Really need @EvilDaifu on this trip - am failing on the photo evidence side of things.

Lunch was expensive today (ended up going to a awesome pub on the recommendations  of one of the local constabulary)

We're striking out with the chicks though :(

At Dunedin tonight.

Great days of leaving skid marks around NZ

Off to Christchurch tomorrow and joining up with @Wenier for some recommend roads.

Car is pretty awesome, luxurious, comfy, chick magnet etc. Bit of tweaking and it'd be magical.

Mine pulls harder, stops better and handles better but aren't complaining ;)

Foods great, roads are great, coppers are polite and friendly, scenery is breathtaking, people talk funny, petrol is fucking ridiculously expensive ($2.50/l compared to the $0.70?? I pay at home for gas - $120 for 500kms vs $50 at home) The AMG is decent on economy though - not a Hyundai,  but not a siphon.

Pics/vids to come when I get to them.

Anyone looking to join us definitely should.

Shag is a type of bird apparently.

"As wet as a shag on a rock" is a saying (that I'd never heard of) relating to that.

No shags were seen at the point, but there was a seal

Not wrong.

Been on 95, havent seen 98 anywhere.

Guy who handed over the car said 95 or 98 so I decided not to stress about and run with the 95.

Will try and get a tank of 98 at least once while over here and see if the extra oomph is noticable

Well meet up with Rab and Paul this afternoon in Christchurch, was great to meet them and put a face to the name.  I joined them for the drive towards Greymouth parting ways on the West Coast side of Otira Gorge.

Was great fun through the twisty roads around the mountains and both vehicles got to stretch the legs a little.  That AMG has got some go to it.  Was an easy 1hr back home from where I left them and seem to have misplaced about 2/3 of a tank of 98 quite quickly today.

Depending what the guys get up to will catch them later in the week possibly.

Haha. Great minds think alike and all that.

Great to catch up. Hopefully get another run in before we head off.

Don't want to look at the fuel used, but the range left on the tank started going up once we left you ;)

Thanks heaps for showing us the fun bits :)

Will be spending a 2nd night in Greymouth - maybe a third if the barmaids are lucky ;)

Probably won't get a chance to catch up with @Wenier on the way back to the airport sat - will see where we end up tomorrow :(
