On a side note the performance gains from the water cooling and good supporting parts were huge.

I used the test from http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

and my 3D benchmark result was 11,424

well above a standard GTX980 of 9,753 and close to the GTX980Ti 11,542 average

I delided the CPU and ran the cooler directly on top with some CL TU paste

set the multiplier on the cpu to 40x (4GHz) but left everything else in tact for idle ramp up and down purposes

ran the standard xmp memory profile for the ram

and that was it :)

Anybody else have 3dmark (piratebay lol)?

I have squeezed 8133 in the firestrike benchmark out of a 4570 I5 and R9 380. that's alot from that combo lol. Pics n sh*t later when home

Which Firestrike do you use? (there are 3 on mine - Firestrike, Firestrike Extreme and Firestrike Ultra)

edit: 22,488 on Firestrike, 8,242 on Firestrike Ultra - I guess FS Extreme would be between the 2

just std firestrike, I only have a 1080p monitor and my combo runs everything nicley at that res. 100fps in iracing, 250fps in cs:go lol.... newer titles are between 40 and 80 depending on the scenario. I have little budget for pc gaming these days with 2 cars, kid, house etc...

This new combo cost me less than 400 bucks and is a:

i5 4570 at 3.6ghz
R9 380 at 1170mhz/6300mhz(overclocked pretty well)
16gb of ram
120gb kingston SSD
128gb samsung SSD
3tb WD Green storage drive
27 inch monitor and peripherals

8gb of ram, One SSD, case and the monitor left over from previous build. Purchased the video card and PSU. The rest was free stuff destin for the bin as work loves to just throw stuff away as soon as it doesnt just work.... The 4570 pc was getting thrown out as it didnt turn on...Dead psu the rest was fine... 4570, good gigabyte mobo, an ssd and 8gb of ram were salvaged from that...

Very happy with the performance for the outlay and I can play iRacing again.

8000ish firestrike core is about what an AMD FX 8 core gets with a GTX 970 which is a much better card than the r9 380. So yeah im pretty pleased with the.

I have a quadro fx 580 lying around, might throw that in as a dedicated physx card and inflate the firestrike score just to prove it has no real world bearing really. Just artificially inflates the cpu score

I was also very lucky as the two different brands of ram kingston/crossair had the same timings for the same speed and are both compatible with this mobo/cpu. Pretty rare you will run different brands of ram at the same time without issue.
