Hi guys new member here

wondering if anyone here can help me out,

2 weeks ago purchased a bf mk2 xr6 turbo the cars stock other then an exhaust system, first few days I thought it drove fine untill I started to notice a ticking/air leak sort of noise under medium acceleration and it seems to be not as responsive now and slightly lacking on power. Idels fine. Doesnt like full throttle atm. Can only hear this noise when the windows are down.

now from what ive been hearing im thinking it could be some of the turbo manifold bolts may have spun loose/fallen out.

does this sound like it could be the problem or can anyone give me any other suggestions? I dont want to take it to a mechanic just yet and just wanted to know if this sounds like it may be the issue before I go and buy/borrow tools.

thanks guys!

Did you replace the cat?

If you did, it can cause overboost (which can cause any number of problems).

I am unsure the exhaust was on it already and havnt checked to be honest.

Im almost certain the issue wasnt there when I first bought it.

what sort of issues can the cat cause? You think it may need a tune or somthing?

so you bought it in the current configuration and you're not sure what mods were actually done to the car, other than a louder exhaust?

all I know is its a john bowe exhaust not sure if its turbo back or cat back ill have to check. There are no other mods what so ever.

Could it be the manifold bolts causing a ticking noise or you think its not that?

the guy I bought it off was a mature age guy and a mechanic and can tell its been well looked after so I assume he tightened the bolts when needed..

it could be a huge number of things... but check over the basics first

manifold to turbo bolts/nuts, exhaust manifold to head bolts/gasket, dump to turbo studs/nuts/gasket, crack in turbo exhaust housing, exhaust leak around cat area etc.
