Hi guys

So as the title suggest I suspect my head gasket has blown.

Throwing code p0356, using coolant but nothing on the floor, strugglesish to start and white steam on cold start. On boost no missfire but at idle and light load it splutters a little.

I think this has been caused by a certain persons misses putting in petrol on the e85 tune and diluted it to around e30 and gave it a little bootfull and drove around for two days like that.

Anyway so Im assuming its the head gasket. Anyone have any tips or tricks to male the job easier or things I should be doing while im changing it?

Cheers

Cheers

Being organised and prepared will make it easier.

Use freezer bags or little tubs for bolts etc and mark them.

Keep everything clean. Have a tub setup with ample degreaser and a wire brush.

Have the necessary tools close by and make sure your work area is clean.

Have all your parts ready for install before commencing work so you can get it done in one go.

Spend less time walking and more time working in regard to the last two tips.

Did I mention make sure everything is clean?

The list of what to do could be quite long depending on what you already know.

If the head is off then why not pull it apart and clean up the factory casting?

Port match the intake and the exhaust including the gaskets.

You will have a chance to clean the valves and check the valve seats.

Replace valve guide seals.

Beers are important. Drink them when you're done and finished testing. I recommend 12 in 3 hours but your milage may vary.

May be doable in a day with a mate or 2 but its a big job if you haven't done it before. Pulling the dump, turbo and manifold off took me a few hours, you've still got the intake manifold, coils, plugs and rocker to come off before you even start on the head.

Can you garage it until you get the box done at CMS? Get it trucked down there and have it all done at once if you can, $$ wise its probably the best move.

If your head is straight and you've done it before, more than once, then one day is doable with the right prep.

The main difference in how long it takes is experience.

Match porting is easy mate, you can check google for details. It's not like modifying the internal parts of intake or exhaust ports.

2 minutes ago, Ralph Wiggum said:

I pullthe head complete and bench disassemble and reassemble.

Takes two people to lift obviously.

I've done this and it makes tricky bolts and hoses not tricky.

You will need a wife or mate like Ralph said.
