mummba on this forum went from a 6466 T4 1.00 a/r rear to a EFR9180 1.05 a/r and he loves the EFR. The technology in the EFR leaves Precision for dead. It's a shame to hear about the failure posted above....but then again mummba only changed as the Precision failed.

There is a budget Borg Warner version out soon called the S300 SX-E. It's a T4 platform and journal bearing but there is a whole lot of good about it!!

Did you overboost to reach that turbine rpm? Interested in hearing more!!

Yeah, had 2 separate issues causing over boost.

The first one was boost spike on gear changes in 3rd & 4th. We believe from the blow off valve being small. Boost was spiking 5+ psi.

The second was a restriction from the intercooler at high rpm. We were still using a PW stepped cooler at this stage, had a 6 psi difference from hot to cold side of the intercooler.

The result was a spike to 30+ psi when there should have been 21psi.

This is the actual data log of the run at Racewars when the turbo failed.

It shows the car going 1st, 2nd, 3rd (boost spike), 4th (turbine explodes!)

The purple line is boost using an aftermarket 3 bar map sensor.

Boost spiking is common on changes, normally auto changes as it loads up the turbo harder on the change

That's massive boost for a PW1 stepped cooler especially with the EFR turbo

Got any timing logs with the boost and 3bar ?

You shouldn't get spikes with a manual on gear changes. I don't have a BOV and don't get any spikes. My mates with the 9180 just uses the EFR BOV and he has no dramas either. It also looks like the boost spikes prior to the throttle closing. It might be something more sinister so keep poking around.

Don't see many people using the Borg Warner's on their falcons. I know little about them so can't comment much, but it's funny you don't see many of them round if they have better technology/drivability etc than the precision turbo's. Because the last 2 years has been raving on about how precision are more versatile and better than the garretts....

Price is a big factor. The efr range is expensive compared to the precisions.

You can get good results with the precisions or garretts so many people think why spend more for marginal benefits?
