It's a balancing act, so both. Hydraulic lifters have that limitation in their design.

 

Edit: The more boost and rpm you have, the more spring you need to prevent the lifters holding the valves open when you get valve float. Make sure you have the right springs for your intended use, but not too heavy.

If that's the case , you must drive like a pussy. I killed one on each of my F6. The BF only had 2000ks. Once you rev past 6000rpm for long periods and often  its all over .

 

They end up like this. Here is 2 I prepared earlier. I use forged now.
