Hay all

Talked to a specialist today regarding our famous oil pump failures. Atomic have the oil pump gears and upgraded pump also. Ive seen alot off peoeple unsure off weather to get the whole pump or just the gears. Well the specialist says there is absolutely no need to replace the pump unless your revving the car to 8rpm. He said the atmoic guys are talking sh*t and just want the extra money. The gears are the only weak link.

Cheers

the gears are the weak link yes.

they are also the oil pump. Possibly you are referring to the oil pump housings??

Really only an issue in a manual from what ive found. The time spent on limiter in a

manual, the stop start jerk that goes straight up the driveline to the snout of the crank

creates a hammering in the georotor. then kapow$$$. In an auto, the torque converter

takes a lot of the harshness out of it.

Oil pumps fail from the gears inside the pump. The pump itself isnt the problem it's the pump gears that are weak.

Its just not the gears, the pressure relief valving and galleries need to be modified. Buying a whole assembly is best

So why do pump housing split?

Who's pump housings have split? Alot off people are just replacing the gears and the engineer I spoke to said atomic were talking sh*t about the pumps having issues only revving to 8rpm will cause pumps to fail. He said atomic are just trying to make extra money.

Just replace the gears then and dont get ripped off. I suppose your engineer has had more experience with Barra motors than Atomic
