1. The diff in my kindly treated, 18,000 km Turbo clunks as you start, stop or turn.

I'm about to request a replacement, but before this I would like to know if this is common and what Ford are doing about it ??

I want to avoid the inevitable snow-job that I suspect will follow when I raise this.

2. Also, what is the latest on the brake shudder problem ??

My discs were machined once, but the shudderereturned after a few weeks. I understand that there is now "permanent engineering fix".

Any comments ??

I also don't like the idea of having twice-machined discs - they'll be getting a bit thin for a new car.

Welcome to the forum.

Driveline shunt is very common in the manuals. Our XR6T had it, and now the GT too  Its one area where Ford cut corners to save $$ and is a spoiler on a great car.

Let me know how you get on with the diff replacement. l have only tried one dealer so far, but got nowhere.

If your discs were machined around Sept/Oct or before that last year the chances of it reoccuring are pretty good. The new level shim was released in Oct last year but the machining was mainly being done by sub contractors who's machines werent calibrated to the tolerances expected by the Ford machining procedure. Also the machines that are being used by all ford dealers now has a specially manufactured adapter hub for it.

As for the rotors getting too thin,I've machined the same vehicle 4 times and it still has plenty of thickness left.
