Recommended Tuner / Workshop Act

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the replies guys, one shop suggested M and A and then they said to ring ford, southern diffs are definitely closed until Monday, so I'll be waiting until then I think, got halfway through moving the yoke around so I might finish that tomorrow if I get a chance.

I am on south side so for the purpose of convenience I will wait until Monday and go from there and let you know how I go with southern diffs at the least.

Pretty certain M&A Engineering in Mitchell don't balance tailshafts. If you are on the Northside, you could try BERCO Engineering (6241 6666), in Mitchell.

Otherwise, as you have stated there is Southern Differentials and the Canberra Driveshaft Centre in Phillip (6281 6192).

Let us know how you go, as I am just about to (finally) have mine strengthened in the next couple of weeks.

What shaft did you decide to go with and whose going to fit it?

ESP have recommended a one-piece tailshaft, but I am not certain who is fabricating them?

Other than that, I am just waiting on a quote from Brad, for a Phase 2 998 GT-A rebuild.

I should know more in about a week.

Why 1 piece? Most seem to use 2 piece with upgraded uni and stuff don't they?

So is that a kit to rebuild using your block or a full long? Sounds like things are getting serious, time to turn up the wick :)

Yeah, most are upgraded centre bearing and a chrome moly sleeve. I understand they might have had a few issues with driveline shunt with some two-piece shafts?

The plan is to rebuild my engine block, so I can retain the engine numbers, but I guess it will all come down whether or not the block passes muster. Yeah, the wick is being turned up to 11.....lol

Right so everything's all fixed now. I would say that I'm very happy with southern diffs, he knew what he was talking about.

I got the uni replaced first because I had mangled it a bit putting it back in. charged me less that what he quoted because the tailshaft was out of the car already, which is some nice honesty even if it was only $70 worth.

Got the tailshaft balanced, and he had said worst case $600 and it came back at $350 which was good again, took it for a street bash and everything's fine.

Southern Diffs are good. I got my true Trac put in by them. Other places had quoted me upwards of 3500 for just the true Trac. They quoted me 2700 with diff bushes as well!
Ended up costing about 2600 I think?

Paging @El Andrew and any other Canberries.....

What sort of rep does ESP Racing have on the barra scene these days? Not so much with customer service and pricing, but the tuning side itself

cheers

I spoke to them when I first looked at getting the BA tuned but wrote them off on the first phone call. At that stage I just wanted a tune on stock injectors to suit my cat. They said I needed to buy 1000cc or it would blow.
When I said I just want it tuned safe on factory injectors they said the car will make whatever it wants to make, then you chuck in injectors to suit. But that might have been sales pitch more than actual idiocy, so I can't really comment on how good they are when they actually sit down with the lappy and the dyno.
Out of the places I've spoken to, Jake's Performance seemed sensible and knowledgeable.
Quite a few people here recommend CMS as the nearest decent tuner! I've seen a couple of high boost low power grenades getting around Canberra.

to clarify, I'm looking at a ute that was put together and tuned by ESP...has an atomic motor and all the good bits, just wondered what they were like as tuners
