Given you have a BA then I'd really talk to a tuner before going for more power cause there's only so much the motor can handle.

I don't think anyone in canberra is an xr6turbo specialist so to speak, unlike guys in Sydney and Melbourne.

But in saying that you have mcinnes who can vouch for Gentech, Fryer can vouch for ESP and I'm sure if you spoke to Mick from Pitlane he wouldn't recommend anyone other than Jakes.

At the end of the day shop around and see who you're most comfortable with and who seems like their going to do whats best for your car, rather than their hip pocket.

And yes at the moment March 3rd we're gettinga feed and going for a cruise. More deets to come ie times

Where is the best place to go in Sydney? after getting a few prices from Gentech, (which I have put below) I'm not keen at all when I could have a weekend in Sydney and get the FG XR6 turbo done at the same time. I want to achieve around 275rwkw, I was thinking of swapping the air intake for a high flow cat, thoughts? I was also going to replace all the piping at the same time.

Tune $990

X cal 3 $795

Injectors $795 fitted

Blu power intake system $695 fitted

Thermostat $120 fitted -> WTF? would take 5 minutes to fit and costs $20

Hey mate have a look through the last couple of pages of the spotted thread and you'll see some stuff on tunes around the area. I've spent the last 6 months working out my tune and what parts I want as have a few other guys on here.

First and foremost for 275rwkw the intake is a waste of $$. Instead just cut a whole in the bottom of your airbox and drop in a K n N panel filter. $100 max

Cat is not really needed for that power but for what it costs ($500 installed max) you will come closer to 300rwkw.

You MUST add at least cooler pipes to your list ($500) because FG ones are chit and blow off. If you're looking for more power in the future then a cooler should be added to your list.

And yea Gentech are pretty expensive if you let them run wild with what they want but if you pick and choose your parts like I have it can be done not much dearer than Sydney. personally I'm staying in Canberra because if something happens they're around the corner and Kit (tuner at Gentech) has been great with customer service.

If you want any more info on what I've done just shoot me a message

Jake from Jakes Performance is currently flat out building a Torana drag car that he is taking to the US to tour all the drag strips.... think he flys out in the next few weeks..... lucky *beep*!

Kit @ Gentech does all my tuning as well, and I highly recommend him. And his VL turbo drag car is jizz in my pants material.

Series 1 BA. Its tuned to 250RWKW at the moment. I am looking at getting 300-320RWKW at the next tune.

Not so sure about the 300 to 320.

I have a MkII BA XR6T myself and although my target is 300 rwkw I'll be satisfied to hit 280. The problem is that until the BFII these engines only run 'skinny' rods, so extracting 300+ out of them runs the risk of bending one.

I'm considering the option of either rebuilding the bottom end, or picking up a later model long motor (which I'd want to freshen up anyway most likely). With the later model engine [from an XR6T or F6] the opportunity is there to shoot for a LOT more later, if so desired. I'm still weighing up my options on that, as wheels and brakes come first (not to mention oil feed line, exhaust, etc).

As far as tuners are concerned, I was looking at speaking to the guys at Gentech, but a guy called Dale at (I think) Autotech in Castle Hill has been recommended pretty highly. I know of a couple of guys who actually took their car to Melbourne and let Blue Power Developments work thier magic, so the choice is yours.

No matter who you consider to do the work there will always be good and not so good stories floating around, depending upon different people's experience and thier view of how things went.

I spoke to Kit at Gentech and his prices for me are just too much. Am going to a wedding in Melbourne next week so the FG is having a two day stopover at Bluepower. I had my old BA XR8 tuned by Chris and I trust Theo and Chris more than any other tuner. I don't get any of the "you need this and that also" from them, which makes me feel comfortable knowing I'm not getting upsold stuff. Also the well known tuners in Sydney and Melbourne have tuned a lot more turbos than anyone in Canberra, and with that comes a lot of experience, I don't want my car to be a test dummy.

Im really tempted to go see joe at CMS or Mick from Pitlane, but I'd hate to choose one of them and then something goes wrong when Gentech is around the corner. I'll probably move to Melbourne or Sydney in the next 2-3 years so will just change tuner when I move, let one of these too put on a gtx and go for broke lol

Not so sure about the 300 to 320.

Thanks,

The guys at Gentech did the first tune and did a great job, The car will more than likely go back to them for the next tune as I want to stay local,

I looked into changing to a later model XR6T but for the change over price I can do a lot to my series 1. Already done brakes, fitted FPV wheels,HDI Intercooler and upgraded to a TR6060 gearbox with a twin plate clutch.

So next will be valve springs, cat and maybe fuel pump if needed. Also need to change the diff from 3.46:1 to 3.73:1 Rods will be at a later date or as you said hunt down a late model short motor.

I'm going to be sticking with Gentech, it's all booked in now but out of all the work I'm getting done theres about $7-8k and Gentech will be getting about $3ish of it.

I like the idea of them being so close and they've been great so far but yea for many people its definitely well worth it travel out of town for a tune
