Should I Buy This Xr6T (Merged Topic)

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

First time poster here and interested to hear others thoughts on my idea to swap my much loved 2004 xr8 auto for a 2002 xr6t manual (5spd) with a family member. Mine has 180k on it citric acid in colour. Has leather interior and is in really good nick. Well better then many others I've seen.. My family member has the xr6t with 250k on it phantom purple and cloth seats mated with the 5 speed manual.. Both cars are stock and we have both owned since close to new.. Both cars have mags fitted and mine has had ssl springs fitted but the shocks were not changed.. Basically I know I'm asking on a turbo forum so support for the turbo would be more popular but wouldn't mind getting a few ideas that's all.. Thanks

What do you mean

Car looks much nicer and its newer too, a proper BF2. It’s obviously had the car yard spruce up, but having a look at that bay shows it hasn’t been molested, all inlet plumbing hose clamps match

If you are looking at a auto make sure you know about the + & -

2 years older, 70,000k's extra, less features and a crap gearbox....I say no....

As mentioned above, you could probably sell your car and spend a couple of extra grand to get into a decent BAmk2 or even a BF depending on your budget. This way you will get the 6spd manual trans that is basically bullet proof.

Take a quick look in the classifieds section to get an idea of the prices for a well looked after, modified XR6T

Hey fellas, yeh straight swap.. I heard the 5 speeders are not the greatest.. I like auto tbh.. I kinda was thinking about building an engine and some kind of 3 spd maybe a 4 spd auto for it in the future.. I have a ttg as my main driver so this one will be for play.. Which I will probably gut pretty early on..

I guess he ain't a fan of purple. Thanks for the replies it was Definately one of my strongest options as senna mentioned sell and buy one.. Only thing I figured was I know both cars history and we are both pretty easy.. They always wanted an 8 and I kinda wanted the 6t. Also keeping in mind I don't have to advertise sell and go looking and purchase.. Mainly I think the convenience factor may be what has me contemplating..

It seems pretty convenient, and you won't need to deal with anyone so that alone is always a big factor.

As you said, you do know both cars history, but be warned that a car with 250,000kms on it on the odometer, even if you were to rebuild the engine, will more than likely need other parts replaced (suspension/brakes/transmission etc) since it wont be able to hold the power you're after. But you seem pretty aware of that anyways.

For cost wise and what you get though, the guys on here are great guys and easy to deal with. You might find yourself a car you like in the classifieds and all the cars are generally well looked after and safely modified so might be worth the extra "hassle" and going down that path.

If you are gonna but it and turn it into a drag monster then sure, a straight swap will be much more convenient - you also have no money out of pocket to start the project.

Yeh all is well appreciate the feedback.. Nobody I know owns these type of cars so was just looking for a couple of opinions.. I think I might aswell run with it and just see how things pan out.. I must agree with the comments about looking for another one that would be more suited if I infancy intended to keep it all as is but that statement is well off the mark.. Kms would also be of concern and a major factor but seeing as though I will change over suspension engine and box there is not really much that will be staying put so to speak.. So cheers for the input! I'm sure I will post up something in the future once I start the build..

How about buying a modded one to begin with.I have seen some great cars with big money spent, for a fraction of the build price.Just remember that a full build will coast a packet....

Hi everyone,

First time post.

I'm in the market for a XR6turbo.

Ive sourced out a 2004 BA XR6T 5 Speed Manual. 150000kms. Has leather, Premium Sound. full electrics etc.

What type of price should I be going for? they want 11,500? Is that too much?

What are the things to look out for when buying one of these?

Any other things I should know about these cars before I jump into one?

Thanks heaps :)

Don't buy a 5 speed if you want to modify... The gearboxes can't handle it and youll need to spend $5k to upgrade to a T56 and decent clutch
