Elsewhere you can expect to have your car torn apart if there's any suspicion of you having one.In WA land we know that speeding is all about road safety and not like other states being mainly VIC, NSW and QLD where it's all about revenue hahaha the more they police a little advantage is good. The thing ping every 30seconds , and after a while you pulled and sat it in the glove box... It was able to used in your car and bike... I have seen these new systems , are they readily available - as I thought as years gone by , they were illegal . Do they need to be plumed in or can they be run and removed easily if you were ever stopped by the police ?Escort and beltronics make both fixed and portable ones.The one I have has GPS so it gives me my constant speed. It can be programmed with school zones, speed cameras and red light cameras.Every month I go on the website and it adds any new locations. It warns me as I approach any saved locations. I can mute it at the press of a switch.If any emergency vehicles send out information my radar picks it up and warns. For example yesterday there was roadworks ahead and the radar alerted me about 300m before.Also an ambulance came from behind and the radar alerted emergency vehicle.SO FOR ME its not a radar detector but a all in one safety system. Hey I dont speed through school zones because I get alerted. Although from what my cop mates tell me they wouldn't be much use here anyway as most detection is done via laser and not radar. It's already too late to jump on the anchors before you even have a chance to react. I think speed cameras can still be detected as they are the only thing that emits a constant signal, but for anything else there's not much point. And the fact that all patrol cars have detector detectors makes it a bit of a lottery owning one.
