I`m not a fitter nor do I portray one on television. But I agree with Sideways that ratchet ring spanners are awesome.

I am a sucker for little gadgets or time savers. I lol when I think of the times I see something on the shelf and go: ooooooooar! wouldn`t that be HANDY?!?

yet I`ve survived for near half a century without it.

My tools at home are like semi precious gems, I have 3 sockets sets which all go back into the carboard box or sleeve they were bought with and then into the tool trolley but never before they are wiped clean.

One day my sons will have them. They`ll no doubt hock them immediately and buy Pokemon cards or somethink..

I spend around $2K in tools to do a job that I was quoted $500 by a specialist. Needed a plastic bathtub repainted as the tenant burnt her love letters in a plastic tub and bubbled and burnt part of the tub.

Was quoted $500-$600 from "professional bath painters" to come and bog and paint it. I asked one bloke how long he would take and he said 1/2 day. I thought no way, I couldnt even properly sand it in 1/2 a day.

Read up on the net and figured the job these guys do dont last long with the single pack paints they use.

Decided to paint it in two pack. Bought a fresh air breathing machine from the US about $1100 landed. A air extractor machine for a few hundred to suck paint fumes out so I could see where I was spraying, a new spray gun and a couple hundred bucks of paint.

Took me three days with an undercoat and top coat and still looks like it was done yesterday a few years latter.

Havn't used those tools much since either.

Ebay... Kid at work is replacing lost items from the flood and if your carefull, ebay can be great. he walked in this morning holding a 1/2 inch drive breaker bar Snap On like it was a new born baby. Cost him 100 bucks on Ebay.

Other guy bought a fine tooth flexible head ratchet Snap On off the ol` ebay for 100 bucks.. We all went: Dan no way mate.. No one would sell it for that even if they were raging on the gear.. Mousey said it looked fake.. It had Snap On stamped on it, but not Snap On USA..

It was still a dandy ratchet, but I lol`d at Dan checking the thing over like a forensic scientist for the rest of the day.

The Snap On Blue Point gear looks aight.. I`m after some combo spanners and ratchet spanners, they are looking like what I want. Not stupid expensive either..

Trav, I`m agonising ( as I do about every toy purchase, I`m such a bitch ) over a set of ROE spanners and possibly a modest set of ratchet spanners.

Okay, I currently have a satchel of Superworks Gold ( supercheap ) ring open enders which are way better than most snobs would admit. Having the tool trolley now the satchel is a pain in the coight. I could lay them out in the drawer but.. marrr..

I looked at a Blue Point set, would be 3 hundy each for SAE and then the metric, they come in trays and are nice. I found an 11mm Blue Point USA ring open ender when I was scrounging for tools after the flood at work. I compared to some others I had, mainly some Sidcrome ones. They are near twins, but the Bluey has more defined ridge around the ring, the Siddy`s and even my Superworks look similar but don`t have that ring ridge, the shaft blurs into the ring.

lastly, I`m very interested in the KC Professional range in particular the foam tray inserts with the tools in `em.

hard to get exactly what you want, but there`s dozens of combinations to choose from, like full pliers drawers, a drawer with about 50 screw drivers etc.

With a bit of research, you see Snapon is`nt as refvckulously expensive as it first seems. Those ratchet spanners for 400 or so set is fair I reckon, we have some at work and they are surgical quality..

Some of it is crazy, there`s not much chance of me paying 70 bucks for a 5/16`s Whitworth open ender lol..

KC Professional isnt cheap, its not over the top either. I need to go look at them. KC cheap ass Pro Am looks a hell of alot like some Kincrome stuff. I know from experience they throw a badge on a big range of gear. I had a set of pry bars at work with grey handles, 70 bucks, with blue handles and a kincrome packet? 150..

that's a good point about the warrantee.

I suppose most guys would say: hey it`s Snapon, whats the worry? I must admit I`m not aware of a warrantee claim at all.. I read American jokers say their Snapon guys just replace it no Q`s asked. At the prices we pay, you`d have to see it put to the test, eh?

I have a 3/8 and 1/4 drive Kincrome socket set and the 1/2 drive one. Now I have the trolley I thought, I want them open and not have to gin around with the boxes. I scrounged a couple of fairly rooted 1/2 drive sets at work and picked through them to make a complete set, the clips were busted etc.. So I brought them home and ground the clips and crap off and made this dodgey set up. I intend to clean it up properly and possbily paint. I may put some sikaflex behind the plastic socket trays..

Here`s a rediculously huge pic.
