The detector detector works on the principal that all Radar Detectors have a local oscillator and emit a small amount of radiation at the frequency of the radar, not used to detect anything but it is something they cant avoid. The police detectors pick up that there is a frequency in the vicinity at the same freq as their radar.

I always thought about this being overcome by adequate shielding, but I guess they havent found a good way yet. As to whether the cops still use them, dont know... but they would have to be quite on the ball with them.

I'm thinking of buying a Radar Detector (Escort Solo 2) From a workmate.

Now I understand that by living down here in Mexico I'm committing a heinous crime against society by owning one. :bomb:

Does anyone have any recent (last few years) knowledge of police using detector detectors?

I know years ago the Police were able to detect them.

The Solo 2 has VG2 which means when it detects a detector detector it turns it's self off.

Is this successfully in making them undetectable?

anyone sick of the word Detector yet?

Why would a Grandpa need to buy a radar detector for? Grandpa's drive nice and SLOW, especially one I know driving a PURPLE car!:bomb::sick: Im the one who needs a radar detector after the snowy mountain cruise :nono:

Rob...

p.s How are you anyway? :nono:

Try radarlaser.com.au

Click on -"Undetectable" Technology- and have a read about the Beltronics STi

This site will tell you all of the technical stuff.

Looks like if you wanted to take the risk this would be the best one to do it with.

I bought a Bel Pro RX65 last year and it has been brillliant but I'll be selling it soon, not willing to risk the fine when the new laws come in.

The police minister was on the radio and even she said "Radar detectors have a negligible effect on the road toll but these new laws are sending a strong message."

STRONG MESSAGE OF WHAT?!? They are determined to empty our wallets even if we stray over the limit by just a few k's? If they were fair about it I wouldn't have needed to buy one in the first place. I don't intentionally speed but I do concentrate on the road more than my speedo. The multanova can't tell the difference though.

At the end of the day though, if you aren't speeding you won't get caught will you? It's like saying "watch out for speed cameras"... it doesnt matter if you're not speeding.

There are detectors available with custom shielding (cabling, dual faraday cages) making the detector detector fairly useless. do your homework. they work well. Save you every time.

I Don't speed very often Rob, in my slow old Purple car :spoton:

I've seen you drive! you do need one or two.

Have you changed jobs haven't seen you recently?

Thanks for your response looks like I've got some reading to do.

It still doesn't answer the question.

Has any one been booked for using one or are detector detectors just a nasty rumor?
