This is going to turn to sh*t quickly.

I have an iPhone and love it but they're not for everyone. They do lack some functions that some people want.

Post up the features you want from a phone and I'll give you my opinion on what you should go for.

well I would like a good camera but it doesnt really bother me as I dont take many photos, I want a fast, good looking phone which is easy to use, large touch screen which isnt to hard on the fingers, plenty of memory, and something I can listen to music and play videos from...

Ok. Well the iPhone's camera is ok. Not great though.

iPhone's can't send MMS, forward SMS or video record, natively anyway. We'll stick to what they can/can't do out of the box to make it easy for you.

The operation of the iPhone is slick as it comes IMO. The UI is first class.

I haven't used the Omnia but from what I understand it's Windows Mobile just with a custom UI over the top.

I have an omnia...

Cons: Camera sucks ass, messages take ages longer to type than a "button" phone, iPhone is easier to use

Pros: Windows based-seems pretty good for add-on programs, msn & facebook all day, Not sure what else

I think the iPhone is a dream for sms. Beats my old Nokia hands down.

There's a Facebook app and various MSN apps (BeeJive is the best IMO) in the App Store for the iPhone.

From everything I've seen the only people who complain about the iPhone are people who aren't fully aware of what they can and can't do before buying one.

Another point to watch on the iPhone is that the 3G service uses a 2100Mhz network. Not all telco's have a wide coverage on 21ooMhz.

I'm with Optus and 3G coverage is limited to major population areas in Victoria but they are well priced and the 3G speed isn't an issue for me because the apps I use that need a data connection download buggar all anyway.

Flip a coin...

I didnt get the iPhone because:

a. I dont like the way its sold (brainwashing).

b. You cant replace the battery.

The omnia I wasnt very happy with when I first picked it up, but since skinning it with the apps in the other thread it's made it completely different phone and a joy to use.

I'm also with scribr on the camera for a '5' megapixel camera it sux :talktohand:

The images I've taken with it so far are way below par, but good enough for a phone I guess seeing as its the phone your buying not the camera..

My iphone is the fastest SMS ing phone I've had yet, the predictive text(?) is amazing, especially for someone who drinks a lot! picks out the word you were wanting to type from a jumbled up bunch of letters.

If you're happy to jailbreak your iphone it really opens it up to a whole new world. as soon as that's done you can add on things like MMS, SMS forwarding, video, and apps that make heaps better use of the still camera (still not the best around there, but better)

daav, have you actually had a play with omnia's camera and seen some results? or just the fact that it's 5mp? if not, then just remember that a phone camera is nothing compared to a 'camera' camera.

I was worried about the non-upgradable memory on the iphone (got the 16gb), and filled it up with music the second I got it, but recently took half of it off, as I simply don't use it. Think about how many albums you actually listen too (and the copius amounts of internet radio stations available).

Itunes was a concern as I'd never used it before, but easy as once you've used it once.

Battery life was one of the biggest complaints on reviews, but I've got to say, it's simply not a problem for a regular user. On 'normal' days, say 10-15 phone calls a few minutes each, heaps of msgs, few MMS, checking forums, ebay, email and using for a couple of hours on safari via wifi, it'll last me three-ish days before needing a charge. That's not bad at all in my book, and isn't any worse than any previous phones.

UI is nothing less than touchscreen-porn. haven't had a go with an omnia as yet, but yeah, slippery, slidy, sexy...

Dags is right with the fact that 'you' can't change the battery, but the battery can be changed through apple for around $100 from memory.

I was a major boycotting voice in our store not selling the iphone, for the same reason as Dags said, too many rules and regulations around it, but as a phone/gadget it gets my vote :talktohand:

I have a HTC Touch Pro and love it. If you like the non keyboard iPhone style, but want windows, try the HTC Touch HD.
