Whilst the Chief Fire Warden is away, as deputy I have to take over their responsibilities, including the incident notification paperwork, follow-up emails etc.

I had quite a few positive responses to this yesterday:

Subject: Emergency Evacuation - Wednesday October 10.

Good Afternoon Everyone,

Firstly thank you all for the prompt evacuation of the building.

We learned a valuable lesson today, fly spray particles getting into smoke alarms sets them off.

According to the emergency staff that attended today’s alarm, this is a very common occurrence and we were asked to advise staff not to spray anything above shoulder height, this includes the Glen 20 spray’s we have in the toilets, as the particles can easily be picked up by the smoke detectors and the sensor will then set the alarm off.

So please be careful when using propellant sprays and don’t aim them at the ceiling in particular.

Thank you.
