I guess he may be pointing this out as a potential problem, just like the Turbo oil screen issues.

Makes you wonder why Ford would put so many filters inside the motor, they should have just specified 10,000km servicing.

Wow, my engine is in bits atm so I will be doing this for sure.

Big thanks f-wolf. legend.

I wouldnt think there would be any other filters in the motor? Excluding this and the turbo feed. True?

This filter is only on the early ones and not on the later ones don't ask me when they changed.

I have done many sets of valve springs and on the early ones this filter falls out of the housing and I have never seen one that even looked dirty let alone cleaned or replaced one.

If its serviced routinely it shouldn't be a problem. I think the later model BAI and onwards ones have a special program that pulses the control valves to clear them. I think. Don't quote me on that. Something along those lines to keep them clean.

When I first got my BA (one of the early ones) it had an issue where it would backfire and pop off one if the vaccum hoses. Ford told me that it was these filters causing the VCT to become out of phase???

They did something? Changed them or what ever, it has happened a couple of times since though.
