Hi all.. I'm in the process of planning a system upgrade for the premium sound in the xr I'm getting soon.

So far, well I haven't gotten very far..

What I was thinking was:

Rockford Fosgate - T112D2 12 inch sub

MB Quart RVF 268 5x7 splits for the front

MB Quart DKG 168 5x7 rears

JL Audio 500/1 mono block amp for the sub

JL Audio 450/4 amp for the fronts and rears

and I also want to hook up a DVD head unit to run off the factory screen.

Is there anything I should be aware of, would you recomend any alternatives? etc etc..

also, can anyone in Melbourne (s.e.suburbs if possible) recommend a dealer where I can source R.F and M.B gear?

I know of Freeway Car Audio, is there any others?

thanks in advance, jet.

One question, is how do you plan to get the signal to the amps?

You haven't made mention of an aftermarket Head Unit or a Signal Processor/Line Out Convertor (LC6 etc)....

Thants one of the big questions I'd be asking before you embark on sorting out your other gear.

I find Freeway Car Audio to be decent in terms of their knowledge, however not usually as keen as other retailers to budge as much on price

well he has mentioned he wants a dvd head unit so I'm guessing that's how he plans to hook it up?

all the gear you've listed there is good quality gear. have you had a listen to the components yet to see if you actually like their sound or have you jsut chosen some components?

make sure you've had a listen to it all before you buy it, for a head unit you should be looknig alpine/pioneer/jvc/eclipse something like that with dvd capabilities will suit you fine I'd think.

good luck

I want to run an aftermarket DVD unit as stated above.. As for FreewayCA, they have a reputation for being very firm on pricing :stupid::blink: They do know their stuff though.

I haven't had a listen of the parts actually, it 'may' be a good idea to do that before I fork out the hard earned.. Thanks for the advice :spoton:

I was thinking about a JVC dvd player.. there's a decent one at JB I can get a good deal on.

another question..

Would it be a better alternative to buy 5x7" adapters off ebay so I fit 6.5 inch splits instead?

The 6.5's are much more common so it could be cheaper for a quality pair.

Firstly what is your budget? Secondly, what are you going for? SQ, SPL or somewhere in between?

PM EGOXRT and ask him about the 5x7's Polks he got. A great sound for the price and they slot straight in. One thing I would recommend is to dynomat your doors. It makes a massive difference to the mid-bass.

I bought 6.5" spacer places for 5 bucks each from a stereo shop when I did my install. They saved the hassel of having to find 5x7 speakers.

yes 6.5"s are much more common but if you can find a 5x7 that attracts your attention and isn't too big for your budget grab it for the ease of installation. personally I've done two BA installs with 6.5"s and it isn't too hard to make a spacer to fit them.

JVC do make some competitive priced stuff. the only downside I've ever heard of them are their menu's are a bastard to use while yor driving but if it's a dvd player the screen may make it alot easier. but they are supposed to be quite well built units too

look forwards to seeing your install

Budget is around 2500 installed, give or take a few..

As for quality or db, id rather a mixture.. I dont want overkill, but I also dont want to be dissappointed with the bass.

Polk? Never heared of them before.. Might do a quick google search..

For the sub box, I was thinking of making it myself with some 12 or 16mm MDF to cover the boot space from behind the seats to where the hole for the spare wheel starts. Looks like im going to have to build a box to fit in the space and then put an extra mdf plate on the back to cover the space around the box on the inside of the boot.

how much did the whole setup cost you if you dont mind me asking?
