I was looking at this earlier today as well, I think ford are stuck in a tight spot with this one, two XR5's gonna be confusing unless they give it another name...

I don't see why its confusing.. the full name of the cars are Ford Focus XR5 Turbo and Ford Mondeo XR5 Turbo.

Seems similar to Subaru Impreza WRX STi, Subaru Forester STi, Subaru Legacy STi etc.

ok, un-educated customer scenario "Hi, I'm interested in the XR5" "which XR5" "you mean there is more than one? that's pretty dumb!"

See what I mean, I'm gonna have to explain that to a million ppl trust me!

I see what you mean...People are stupid and expect the worst of them.

You got to wonder why the car didn't have all the covers on it.

it is interesting, maybe because they have shown the car on tv and the like they don't care anymore...

The cars official launch is only about 2 weeks away at the sydney motorshow, I'll actually be excited to work on the stand this year, unlike last year which was the same old crap with the same old complaints!

Ditto, the missus car is due for an upgrade in a few years and just the other day she was saying "why don't ford do a midi-sedan like other companies"

now to me that sounds like "when Ford bring one out, buy one for me honey and I will be so happy and proud of you; you will be infinitely rewarded"

hey that's all I need :spoton:

I'd buy it.

Its already been released in Europe so no point covering it up. There's plenty of them getting around now, I saw a silver one in High St Belmont a few weeks ago.

Hi Guys,

I saw that too the other week on Car Advice. It seems a bit wiered to me though, cause even though the car has already been released in Europe you would still think ford would cover it up, at least the changed bits of the car. Any how the other thing that I don't get is, why doesn't it have a more agressive front like the Focus XR5 Turbo and there isn't any sport like spoiler or stainless tip exhausts, just the standard cosmetic elements. I have some doubt that this is really the XR5 Turbo version of the Mondeo, it is unusuall to see the same name as well. I hope Ford changes the power output, cause a lot more weight is sitting on the ground than the Focus XR5 Turbo and the extra boost would really benefit the car.

More info and pics on this car is needed to really know whats going on.

Cheers

Prim

...I was just parked next to one of these things in town here. A couple guys in suits driving it. I thought it was a Focus, I wasn't aware there was a Mondeo turbo, but then I realised I was looking at a sedan... It looked bloody nice!

Just an update on this for anyone interested, the Mondeo will have the XR5t nameplate, it uses the same 5cyl volvo donk, but produces 162kw, the reason for this is that with the lower power figure, it produces the same torque from only about 1600rpm, this is important for the bigger car to get it moving. Available in 6spd manual only the car has everything you could want, also you can option voice command technology in the mondeos, so you can tell it to make phone calls via bluetooth, change the climate control, and change the radio station. I was playing with this feature the other day at the motorshow, very cool :surrenderwave:

I dont see why the name XR5 will be confusing. What about the names Ghia and Zetec? They are used on more than one model. I dont see how it is different. Anyway, it seems as though the mondeo is shaping up to be a great car. It may even give the falcon a run for its money.

The Focus Xr5 is fairly quick but no match for a XR6T, the Mondeo Xr5 uses the same engine as the Focus but carries more weight. the Mondeo XR5 is not a performance car, just a very good tourer.

Saw one briefly today in the flesh a very nice looking car, Mmmmm Ford middle range of cars are certainely looking up. I dont know if this is a good or bad thing for our larger cars in the future.

A Mondeo XR5T will be approx $46,000 on the road, not too far behind XR6T, but it comes with a few things the T doesn't - auto rain sensing wiper, Premium Human-Machine Interface, 8 Speaker Sony Stereo, Keyless Start, front and rear parking sensors, Leather & Alcantara Trim, Optional Voice Control with Bluetooth, 7 Airbags - Blah Blah, these cars have alot of gear in them, and feel nice to drive too, its just a different segment to the Falcon
