I thought if I were going flat out, I'd best have it in performance (sports) auto mode.

Doesn't the car shift a little later (I.e. higher rpms) in that mode so the shift points are closer to rev limit?

Or is it that someone new to an XR6T like me should be shifting a little earlier than performance auto?

Cheers,

Walker

Yes. Hold it flat to the floor to get the best out of it. Like Al mentioned you can't over-rev them, and also make yourself aware of the existence of the detent on the accelorator pedal. At first you'll assume it's the limit of the pedal travel, but push past it and hang on :spoton:

Hey..

Punch every gear through to the limiter..... (yes it can handle it) but make sure your motor is hot when you do it...

The go do some thread mine on F6UTE and read his comprehensive guide to getting the best outta a straight six.....

Blonk ...Was that thread you mentioned by F6 UTE posting "Quick Times ..." (in a manual)?

He reckons you shouldn't upshift with the revs higher than 4500rpm to get the quickest time?
