did mine 2day, 20k on the clock, was pretty dirty, went for a spin and no more LSD noise when moving into parking spots and into the driveway. Castrol synthetic, took most of 2 bottles.

No need to jack the ute's up to change the diff oil. There's plenty of room under there.

I've use the castrol safxa in mine every 8000k since it was new and it's now got a 130000k on it with 306 rwkw for most of them and the LSD is still really tight, I think 50k is way too long to let it go especially when it's an easy job and cost $60 for 2 bottles at stupid cheap auto.

I changed the diff oil today in my FG MKII Turbo ute, I used Castrol syntrax 80w-140 full synthetic. I loved the smell of the oil. But later on I had a look in the service manual and found the service intervals for the turbo utes, very short ? every 7,500km, and also noticed there should be some friction modifier added. Is it really needed ? Or just an old wives tale ? Pics of the service manual pages below.

A guy I work with used to be a grease monkey at a ford dealership said that the friction modifier helps with the clutches in the diff and its worth mixing in with the oil, so I went to autobahn and got a tube of this Nulon G70.

Bloody hell.. The guys where I got my ute (Subaru Glen Waverley) quoted me over 300 to change the oil... with the "special ford stuff" that will make all those damn noised go away.

Thought it was a load of crap...

I hate doing diff oil though, that stuff stinks to high hell.

But hey, for the money I save I can pick up a new jack, some ramps AND the oil......

Unless it's on it's guts or your gut is the limiting factor haha

Yeah.... I cant see me fitting underneath the ute.. :D

slygary its NOT changed at 7500km like you've found there normally. If you read the top of that service interval it says for vehicles operated under severe/unusual conditions. So you need to find the other page that probably says 30,000 or 60,000 between services (I'm guessing the figures there)
