My tuner said I may need to fit colder spark plugs when I get my next lot of upgrades done. He said he uses NGK plugs but could anyone tell me the part number that he would be using if he was fitting colder plugs. Any help would be great

standards are fine mate, re gapped if running higher boost

I agree. Half the price of the NGKs and just as good. You could try the Motorcraft gas plugs; same part number except for a 7 at the end. Gap is fine for higher boost applications straight out of the box.

I had standard regapped plugs in the car, yeh um changed them out last weekend for a plug the same rating as a phoon plug but gapped to 0.8mm and it made a difference to idle power ect, though plugs could have been on the fritz, but I got a colder plug already gapped for cheaper than I would at Ford, so pending how many km's your car has done perhaps a plug change is just a wise thing to do, rewards are smooth idle and smooth power :bum:

NGK PFR6B

WRX 1996 - 2000 plug. Same plug, same heat, etc, just comes gapped at 0.8mm.

Or, BKR6EIX - Iridium version of the above.

Others are running this plug with no problems.

Just to clarify:

NGK Recommended plugs:

WRX (96-00) - PFR6B

P = Platinum

F = Size (in this case 19mm reach, 14mm thread, 16mm hex)

R = Construction (in this case Resistor)

6 = Heat Rating (in this case 6)

B = Firing end design feature

XR6T (02 +) - FR6EI-11

F = Size (in this case 19mm reach, 14mm thread, 16mm hex)

R = Construction (in this case Resistor)

6 = Heat Rating (in this case 6)

E = Reach (19mm, which is the same as F as above)

I = Iridium

11 = 1.1 mm gap

So in short:

- Same size thread, seat and head (F and the E)

- Same construction (Resistor)

- Same heat range (6)

- Different gap - 0.8mm for WRX and 1.1mm for XR6

- One is Iridium and one is Platinum (although you can get the Iridium version - PFR6B = BKR6EIX*)

Why buy new plugs and regap when you can just buy the SAME plug already gapped to 0.8mm?

* BKR6EIX Iridium WRX plug

BK = 14mm thread and 16mm hex (same as XR6T)

R = Resistor (same as XR6T)

6 = Same heat

E = 19mm reach (same as XR6T)

IX = Iridium (same as XR6T - the X means fine wire)

Again - same plug, just gapped already to 0.8mm!
