Hey guys...

I'm thinking of getting private health insurance...

Have you got it?

Who are you with?

How much do you pay?

What do you get for your money?

I'm going to do some research on the internet on it and see what's available but wanted some first hand experiences with it too...

Cheers

Jack

Yes

HCF

$92.30 / month (30% back at tax time)

Not much. Peace of mind perhaps - should anything major happen, I won't be stuck in the Medicare line. Trouble is, apart from things like glasses, you only benefit if you get sick or injured.

The other factor is, I am now over 30, so if I wasn't already a member, I would probably sign up anyway to avoid the 2% extra cost that applies each and every year for the rest of your life if you join after 30.

Im with medibank private. have been with them since i was 18. 8 years of paying them $1300 a year, had not made a single claim in that time. Went and got orthodics for my work boots "oh im sorry sir our recent policy changes mean your no longer covered for orthodics you have to use your bonus" okay 8 years wth no claim must be a good bonus..orthodics where $650 had to pay $380 out of my own pocket so my bonus found after 8 years was a pawltry $270. Needless to say now that we in the new financial year there getting the boot...

Sorry for the long winded post but the moral of the story is shop around and make sure you know EXACTLY what your covered for...

Im with NIB, I pay about $11 a week, purely to avoid paying the extra tax every year. Its only basic hospital cover but I also get some dental, chiro etc extras.

HCF

Hospital Cover only (don't have enough medical experience to understand how Extras work!)

Reason for having: To avoid additional 2% medicare surcharge.

Was a chef once upon a time & now forever a dentist's best friend. The last little stint has set me back about $650 and MBP has chipped in at least this much.

Also there's the ongoing optical for glasses and contact lenses etc.

I hope you've got full hospital cover though.....cause your going to need it very shortly.
