Brian (BCL) has changed his diff gears and in another thread gave quite a detailed run down of the features and effects. Maybe Brian will read this and comment or post a link to the thread.

higher diff gears, I.e 4.11s help with N/A engines over the qtr but they dont with turbo engines. Turbo engines like to be loaded up hence as posted previously sub 10s on 3.45 gears. Or just learn the hard way and put them in.

You don't know what you are on about.

Turboed rotors run 4.58s some even higher.

All cars like lower ratios, just depends on what box you are running.

Auto and 4.11s are the go for 1/4 racing, especially turbos.

Its all relevant, if you want to drag race the car only, then work it out and set it up to run at just before redline in top gear as it crosses the line, that's how Drag Racers setup their cars, or all the ones I have spoken to anyway :crybaby:

Oops, sorry, you are right :)

I meant around 70 in 1st in my Mk1 and 75 in 1st in my Mk2...and the 100+ speeds in 2nd.

Although so I hear it you can get over 90 in 1st with an edit and increased redline!

At the moment the Mk1 5 speed gets about 110kmh in first and the Mk2 6 speed about 115-120 (cant remember but will look again this arvo).

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Holy crap Mick! My manual ute doesn't do 110kmh in first!!! Nor does my phoon do 115-120 !!

Me thinks you meant 2nd...... :crybaby:

I'd expect that comment from someone born in September 1985 but not someone born in Sepetember 1975.

You drive a 4cyl turbo so obviously you know more than the guys who drive and drag race turbo 6s. I bet you also know heaps about brain surgery?

4.11 diff gears create more torque because it makes the pinion gear spin 4.11 times to turn the crownwheel creating more force. Its just adjusting a gear set to get what you want out of your gear set up, Custom machined gears in manual transmissions do the exact same difference but it requires more money and effort, you wouldnt really adjust it unless you really wanted to doesnt matter if its got a turbo or N/A the difference is the same. you loose top end because your putting in bigger ratios which loose speed but carry more force
